Changing CD Autochanger to iPod

Post by MartinRS2K » Wed Oct 21, 2009 10:05 am

I have just bought an S4 Avant (04 Plate) and it has the factory fitted CD Autochanger in the glovebox with one slot that holds the 6 CD's.

As the car has RNS-E Sat Nav but no Bluetooth I am getting the Audi factory Bluetooth adaptor fitted next week and am considering removing the CD Autochanger and adding the iPod adaptor (which has the track information displayed in the dash display area).

Is this something you would recommend as I don't use CD's in the car and my iPod holds over 1000 songs on it which is what I have in my 09 plate A4. Also do you think it will devalue the car when I come to sell it if I have no Autochanger in the car?

Thanks
Martin

It should be an easy change. All you're effectively doing is swapping input sources. Get the iPod lead from fleabay and you should be sorted.

Then sell me your CD changer for £3.26 and a new snake belt

Do you know if the iPod track information shows up on the display? My car has the RNS-E Navigation System

I've never tried one in the Audi. I had the Intravee system in my BMW which showed up track listings etc. Quite a nice bit of kit but you tended to watch the screen more than the road sometimes (similar to the MMI SD system) Surely the SD cards hold enough music for you - along with the versatilty of the CD player should you need one?

Give iPod car kit a call and enquire (0845 430 3355)

BTW - I don't work for them - it just happens to be in the top 3 google presented me with to try and help with your dilemma.

Get 2 x 2gb sd cards and fill them from your computer. I have about 80 albums on mine that way, plus if you buy a cd or borrow one you can still throw it in the multichanger. 2 sd cards are under a tenner now! Don't buy bigger than 2gb as they are HCSD (high capacity) and won't work in the audi as i have tried one in my 05 S4. It doesn't even work in my mate's 59 plate a4 s-line.

I looked into this last week for the same car. £180.00 got me the iPod mount in the glove box and displayed on the DIS. I think for a few hundred quid you could get it to display the track details on the NAV.
Give Fontain Motors a call and speak to Sonni.

I've already spoken to Fontain Motors who say that it can only display in the DIS. I got the iPOd done at the same time as the Bluetooth and it works perfectly giving information in the DIS. The iPod is a Denison Gateway System.

That's weird Martin,
I was in there on Saturday looking through their bumf and Sonni quoted me those figures.

Just can't trust anyone these days.
