Hello all

I am about to buy my first S4 (2004 B6 4.2 Avant) and would like your help in anything I should look for on the car that is a common fault?

It has a full service history and all the stamps are there and the cars condition is excellent.

Welcome Martin. In all due respect but using the search function will identify numerous threads on this same topic.

It's generally a fairly bullet-proof car. I had one for (only) 2 years with only a regular service needed - plus LOTS of petrol of course!

check aux radiators...2 either side of bumper, stick you head underneath and check for dried on coolant

if you find any, take £400 off the price to repair

also, ignition coils can be classed as consumables on these cars - but no real way of forecasting when they'll go

A fair percentage of them also guzzle oil. From what I've read a few people are saying this is better when NOT on the AVS scheme.
