IPOD Connection

Anyone have an IPOD connected to their stereo via the Audi hard wire kit ? Mine came with it installed and I'm just trying to work out a few things,
1) Does it charge the IPOD when it's connected
2) It is controlled via the stereo head unit and it uses the CD channel and therefore each CD (No1-6) are now IPOD albums, can it read albums beyond No6
3) Is it possible to control the IPOD (hand set) when it's connected or is it only possible to use the stereo head unit controls
Would be great if anyone has any experience with one

I have it but have not used it yet as I don't have a suitable iPod. However, from what I have read:
1) Yes, when the ignition is on.
2) I believe the mapping from the CD changer settings mean you only have the fixed 6 options. One of them is 'all songs' so you are left with just 5 playlists you can access.
3) I don't know.

I have the Audi Ipod kit in my B7 and the book says..
1) The Ipod battery will be recharged when the ipod is connected to the adapter and the radio switched on.
2) CD's 1-5 are for the first 5 playlists in the ipod/itunes, CD 6 is a list of all the tracks stored in the ipod.
3) The buttons on the ipod are deactivated when connected to the adapter.
Of note though 'CD(C)6 will always be displayed on the radio regardless of the actual CD/playlist. This will remain until the playlist is changed'. Now I know why i'm always on CD6.

Thanks for the replies.
So CD 6 will let you access the other albums on the IPOD ? How do you navigate through them ? is it just a case of press next and you get, 7, then 8 etc ?

No, you'll effectively get a playlist of all the tracks on your ipod and then have to select each track sequentially starting 0-9 then A-Z.

Still don't get it, sorry it's just me I know...
Ok understand that CD's 1-5 are the IPOD albums 1-5, this makes sense. But when you say that CD 6 is a way to access all tracks, I tried this and yes it goes to the track (not album) that is earliest in the alphabet, then I can advance to the next track that is in alphabetical order. But how to advance on the albums ? is that possible.
At the moment I have around 30 albums on the IPOD and it looks like I'm only ever going to use the first 5 of them !!!!!
Also noticed that once the IPOD is connected it says that charging is NOT supported, it comes up with an AUDI logo at first then displays the track details etc plus has this charging not supported message...

Ridgeway,
When you select CD6, this gives access to all tracks but you cannot advance an album. It is only single tracks so not much use..
On the battery charging, check the charge indicator, there should be some activity if it is charging. It is not a particularly elegant solution and I believe the adapters in the later A6 and new A4 have much better functionality.

Seem to have the control of the IPOD sorted now although to be honest it's not great...
Love the IPOD solution in my Land Rover, I can control it as I like through the steering wheel controls.
Anyway I still can't get it to charge the IPOD !!! It's a real pain because I now have to remove it and charge it separately on the PC via the USB cable...

What sort of iPod are you using? For the some of latest generation of iPods, Apple changed the pins in the plug which deal with charging. If this is the case, have a look at item 150345756743 on eBay which should let your iPod charge from your car.
Hope this helps
