Bose sound?

Just bought a B7 S4 late 2005 with Bose. Didnt really listen to it that much when i got it, but not i have and it sounds like a Halfords 20 quid package!
It thumps out the base to a point i have to have it turned down, but the quality is crap.
I am thinking the speaker covers which have the Audi Bose logo on them are covering cheap speakers - maybe they have been swapped? Not sure if this is possible?
Where can I find the amp and presumably by taking the door card off, I can check the speakers?
Any advice welcome

The BOSE system isn't really that great, it could be someone has swapped the speakers over but I doubt it. Its about the worst (decent) sound system I've had.
The BOSE system in my Alfa GTA sounded better by miles, and the Dynaudio in my V70R just can't be compared.
Suppose its because there's that wonderful V8 to listen to.

Do you have the Avant? The Avant is far worse than the saloon.

I have the saloon. Prior to this, I had an A6 3.0TDI S-line avant and that had better sound and it wasnt bose. I have also had an S3 with Bose which was stunning. Just surprised at this setup!

I've never thought of the Bose as being that bad. What head unit's have you got? Sat- nav or cd changer. I have the 6 disc head unit and the sound is pretty good.

I have the 6cd changer in glove box and the Audi concert head unit.

my S4 saloon didnt have BOSE, my S4 cab does, and IMO, the saloon sounded better. Difference accoustics in the different body shells I grant you, however the Saloon sounded so superb without BOSE I really struggle to understand the benefits of the BOSE
I agree with the BOSE in an Alpha sounding better, test drove on of these prior to the S4's and it was miles better

My father in law has an alpha gt and i think it's Bose in there but i think it sounds crap compared to the s4?
I wonder if the different head unit's in the s4's make much difference?

If possible i'd arrange to meet someone with a similar set up for a sound off. If could well be you've got a problem as not many people complain about the quality of it. Most quite like it.
p.s. Don't compare it with the new B8 A4 B&O system as that WILL highlight any shortcomings. (Can you tell I'm loving my new system!!

I've got the Bose system in my car and I think it sounds fantastic........
Of course I rode moto-X for years when I was younger so my hearing might be shot

Im gonna retract 90% of my original statement here - When I test drove the car, I didnt really pay much attention to the sound quality (the radio never sounds as good as a cd anyway), just wanted to here the V8. Anyway, when I got home, I burnt a new cd and gave it a try in the car. It sounded crap and tinny. Wasnt until I switched it back over to radio, the exact same song came on and sounded a whole lot better!
With this in mind, I grabbed a normal cd (shop one) and gave that a bash and was actually a bit happier with the quality. It was then obvious, the cd I had burnt was not of high quality and hense lead me to think the Bose was at fault.
The quality though as a whole is ok, spose I was expecting the same as my Golf R32 and Audi S3 Bose. I would be interested if I could change the head unit for another - I think I must have the Billy basic one - dont even have the multi functional steering wheel!
