Which suspension for a B6?

Hi Guys. Recently purchased a B6 S4 avant (had an S4 cab back in 2004) which had HR springs which lowered the car 40mm (from the standard A4.) The ride (for me) was too harsh and so replaced with OEM springs. The thing, in my opinion now looks more like an Allroad and am very disappointed with the stance. Is there an aftermarket set up for me which will allow the lowered stance without the compromise (too much) of the ride? I've read reviews regarding coilovers etc but any advice/tips/price is greatly appreciated.

Grum,
I think the standard setup looks pretty good and is already lowered when compared to a standard A4, have you compared against a standard S4 and A4?

Thanks for the quick reply Pete.
Against the standard A4, the S4 is lower (20mm in fact.) My dilemma is that I have witnessed the car being another 20mm lower which, when placed next 2 two other S4's (friends) made mine really stand out (it also has the SP0 alloys with an inch spacer to boot to give an RS6 esq look.) The front has lifted much more than the rear with the [now] original springs. I realise these will 'settle' a little over time but when I compare the before and after pictures the 'before' wins hands down. The ride is seriously compromised though.

Almost sounds like the springs are back to front?

It's not as bad as I'm implying (just trying to emphasise my disappointment I think.) You had me thinking though Pete....thanks for that!
Any suggestions regarding my initial post? Or would you suggest leaving as stock? Personal choice I s'pose.

Personally I would leave it as standard and see you how you feel about in a few weeks, one thing to think about is changing the ride height may affect the suspension setup and hence tyre wear. The S4 does wear tyres at quite a rate and increasing the wear rate may not be something you want to happen.

You can find sets with adjustable height and ride from K&W and Bilstein (and probably many others) so you can fine tune the car the way you want. I am using one on my S4B6 (K&W Variant 3) and I am happy with the result.
Between these two brands, Bilstein goes a bit more on the "tough side" which can be preferred if you looking for the sportiest ride.

I left the OE springs and dampers on my old V8 S4 as the ride and damping was very good.
I fitted the B7 RS4 H+R anti-rollbars to mine, plenty good enough for track days etc
Decent light weight 18"/19" wheels help to.

Thanks for the replies Chaps.
Found this whilst surfing -

Is it a case of you get what you pay for I wonder?
Gonna stick with the original set-up as suggested and seems the popular solution.
Thanks again,
Grum
