After 5 years .....

Post by Scotty » Tue Jan 27, 2009 7:39 pm

...it's time to say good bye to my B6 S4.

Absolutely love it to bits but with one 3 year old and another on the way, it's time to update the car and go sensible.

I'm therefore waiting on delivery of an A4 Avant 2.0T S-line. I was disappointed with what you got on the S4 for the money i.e. engine/brake upgrade (of course) and electic seats but no luxouries....not even a glove box light it seems!!!!

I'll have her for another 6-8 weeks and then it'll be time to shed a tear. The track days, the 'ring trips, the enthusiatic driving, the European tours and the family mundane stuff have all been handled very well. After all this time I still love the sound of my full Milltek system and if I never own a V8 again then I can always look back at these 5 years with very fond memories.

I'll probably still pop in on here but for now I'm saying goodbye to "S" ownership... even though the new car will look like one!
The good news for your guys is I'll be sticking some mods and stuff in the classifieds section.

I'd love to keep her but she's got to go.

Nnnooooooo!

An S4 stalwart getting rid. It's not too late to trade up to an RS4 Avant like me!

I still miss mine, the exhaust mod was well worth doing but the RS is different, sure you can't be tempted into one Scotty?

I am genuinely sad about it. We signed the order form and then instead of being dead happy that a new car's coming, the Mrs has a couple of tears!!

I'm getting my kicks from motorbikes now so I'm buying just for road use and not looking for a car to do track etc. TBH I think I got all the fun I could on track from it. I was finding I was looking for more from it i.e. I really need a Caterham!!

The Avant is the way to go but I simply can't justify an RS4. To be honest if I'm spunking money on something then I want it to feel a bit different and from the test drive I had, I didn't think the RS4 was different enough ... and for me not worth the cost of change. I reckon by resisting the RS4 I've managed to buy the new one out of what it would have cost to change and the depreciation.

The new A4 is no where near as fast of course but it should be around 0-60 in the low 6's (6.7 as standard) once chipped which for real world is enough .... for the majority of the time. Since I don't commute by car I don't rack up many miles on it. When at home I normally have the family in it so I simply don't get the chance to exploit the car now so an RS would simply be wasted.

Perhaps it's my impending 40th that's made me go all sensible or maybe it's the second kid. Either way I'm happy with the decision. I hope I don't regret in the long run.
