Power

I was just wondering if anyone has had their car on a rolling road and what power you are running?
Doesn't matter on the mod's. The more different reply's the better!!!

Yep. It was exactly 350bhp at 6500rpm whilst torque was peak at 305 lbsft at 3250 rpm (but the torque is above 285 all the way from 2750 rpm and only drops back down to 282 at 6250rpm)

my only mod is a Milltek cat back exhaust

(I laid this graph over the previous S3 i'd had mapped, and the power is stronger and more torque throught out the rev range)

Nice one matt. I was hoping lot's more would have posted with a vary in mod's to see what you actually get £ for £, not what is claimed you'll get from modifiers.

This guy (Clive) is pretty handy with his VAG tuning and has rollers that I've run my Impreza, S3 and S4 on, all with out problems.

Used to get 388 bhp and 366 ft/lbs of torque IIRC out or my B6 S4 running full 3" s/s exhaust with 200 cell cats and a REVO remap verified at WRC Technoligies at Silverstone on a Dyno Dynamics Road. £1200 for the exhaust, £500 for the remap.

Did you have the pipe custom made or was it Milltek?
I've got Cat back Milltek currently but quite fancy downpipes and sports cat to go with it, mainly for the improved breathing ability and the accoustics.
I dont want it to be too loud in the car though and I dont really want to pay £1200 for the downpipes and sports cats.
I wonder if its possible to get one fabricated to mate with the Cat back Milltek and it may work out cheaper.

I have a similar set up as P_G, although I have 100 cell cats, with a remap done by JD Engineering, but my figures are no where near as impressive. IIRC at the time I was very disappointed. However, the seat of pants feels a distinct improvement. I will try and find the plots and post them.

I am getting the downpipes replaced in a couple of months plus a reassessment of the ECU map and this should be the final engine upgrade. Unless I look getting bespoke manifolds manufactured or port polishing. The latter is a very big job and not one I am prepared to take on myself.

The exhaust was custom built by a profesional fanricator up here in sunny Newcastle. Milltek although good systems for me have always been prohibitively expensive, near £2.3K for a full system from Milltek and I have to travel whereas £1200 on my doorstep for a system that sounded better and gives equal performance was a no brainer.

All modified exhausts will suffer from resonance frequency drone at 1500-2000rpm, personally I loved my S4 with the new system, the wife hated it and it ultimately proved a lever for me to get into an RS4 not having the exhaust anymore.

If you find a custom fabricator I am sure they could mate down pipes to your Milltek. BTW, 200 cells cats are a safer bet than 100 cell as the latter are right on the edge of emmissions standards when it comes to MOT time and have been known to occasionally cause MAF sensor problems when very hot.

The MOT is not a problem if you have 100 cell cats. Mine has gone through first time for the last 2 yrs You just have to ensure that the exhaust system is hot for cats to perform at their best. As with all cats.

I read about problems with respect to 100 cell cats and MAf and what I can gather it is to do with the position of the lambda sensor. Milltek positions the sensor before the cat. Mine are psotioned after the cat. Which may expain why I have had no CEL or MAF problems.

The alternative is to put them in a bypass chamber along with the Lambda sensors.

Really?!! Interested as to why you switched to an RS4 then, cos I seem to remember seeing post after post on the RS4 section complaining of rolling road figures near enough, or even below IIRC, that! Obviously the whole driving experience is improved, but what's the performance difference?

You do miss the torque in the RS4, however the RS4 does deliver its power to the road like an S4 cannot and is freer revving, even after the remap.

A good test for me is that there is a roundabout on the A19 that on a dry day I could take at just about National Speed limit and feel the car 4 wheel drifting; I can take the RS to the same roundabout and take it at a far higher pace. Breaking is far improved to and when pushing it, as many mods as I made, ther S4 still pushed its nose wide moreso than the RS and the turn in was not as good

I too was a sceptic and was convinced I wasn't going to buy an RS4, however after a few extended test drives it is a better car and now the prices are what they are, it is worth what little financial extra it involves in transferring to an RS4.

I may try and find a local guy to fabricate me something or just wait for a Milltek downpipes and sport cat to come up 2nd hand on ebay.

I'm in no rush, but will buy one tomorrow if I see it at the right price!

Good to see those numbers :) But what really interests me is the rpm figure of 6,500. Dynos have their faults, but one thing they do get right is the revs.

A standard S4 4.2 produces 340bhp at 7,000rpm, and assuming that an exhaust would not move the peak power revs much, that means you're getting peak power 500rpm below where Audi claims.

Looked at another way, if you could hold that torque to 7,000 you would be pulling 377bhp. Did you get the car to rev to the red line? What was the power at 7,000rpm? Can you post the graphs?
