S4/RS4 Exhaust

Post by Spoof » Fri Apr 11, 2008 12:39 pm

Whats the difference exactly, apart from the tail pipes looking different and probably not fitting the S4 bumper, how hard would it be to get the RS4 sounds from an S4?

Are they're completely different from the manifolds back and impossible to fit?

Just curious as I think the S4 is a touch too muted, and the RS4 sounds the business without being over the top like the Milltek.

The back box itself is much larger on the RS4, plus they have the valves activated by the sport button on the steering wheel. The valve looks like it could be jammed open, but the back boxes themselves won't fit in the space that the original ones do. I would guess the best option would be to cut off the RS4 tips and valve, and weld it onto the old back boxes.

Is the space not big enough because of the spare wheel? I can live without that and carry a can of tyre weld (done that with previous cars)

I would have the valves open all the time, but I just suspected it was down to more than just the back boxes giving it the difference in tone/volume

If anything, I'd like to weld the tips of the S4, on to the RS4 system, leaving it looking standard.

You should have a valve on each of your back box's too. You just ahve to disconnect them to keep them open.

Did that about two hours after I picked the car up :) , I'm at the dealers next Friday and the service guy is very helpful. I'll see if he can shed some light on the differences.
