Hello from a new B6 S4 owner - and a question re headlights

Hi all,

Just acquired a 04 B6 in Dolphin Grey in tip, a very exciting and yet understated car indeed (some photos attached), thanks to all your postings that really helped with my purchase decision. The car is all standard, but will put in a Milltek exhaust...

I think this has to be one of the most practical car around, great performance without sacrifying the space and the ability to carry my family in comfort.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone out there has a problem with the mist/condensation in the headlights? It is not much at all, but after a few days of rain, my leadlights gets a bit 'misty'. Does anyone know how I can remove the headlights and seal them properly? Or how much would Audi charge to fix this - at their hourly labour rate, it will definitely be cheaper to buy a new set.

any advice will be very much appreciated.

thanks in advance.

Hi mate

Looks a lovely car you've got. I have the same problem with my car and have learned to live with it. When i changed the side lights i thought of getting the unit warm with the lights out, hoping that the moisture would then escape but that doesn't work in winter!!
I had also thought of taking the headlight bulb out over night and leaving one of those packets of silica from out a shoe box in there?

Dunc

Hi,
this is a known problem with the B6 S4, had the same problem with
my own B6. Now have a B7 that so far does not exhibit this problem!

hi Neutral, thanks for posting the technical bulletin. So audi has known this for a good 10 years and has not yet tried to fix the I would call a design fault. This collecting of mist and moisture will degrade the transparency of the light cover, and I think this is why some cars' headlight covers turns yellowish, hope it does not happen to the b6.

I don't think it is right for audi to blame on the weather and climate, because this does not happen to other cars. I would have thought 10 years is plenty to figure out a solution.

Impressive that neutral has access to the audi internal bulletin. Do you work for audi Neutral?

Thanks for the info, at least I know this is just a design fault, not because of inferior repair work or something. Just a bit annoying though

Hi Supra,

No I don't work for Audi but I do have over 30 TSB's for the S4 B6. There used to be a web site that had all the info but it now seems to be down!
You can also access these and more if you have access to Elsawin.

When I first downloaded the original set from the web I became paranoid after reading through them. I ended up looking for faults that were not there much to the annoyance of my local Audi centre.

There is an updated TSB that I came across in Elsawin which details a mod to the lamp vents.

My apology Angryant, I was wondering why you were so interested in the neutral gear :P

Thanks for the pdf file for the headlight vent mod, have you done it on your car? I have not had a look at it but I guess this is not an easy job or else everyone whould have done it already.

Well, I am looking for things to do to the car, will be putting on a Milltek resonated exhaust this weekend.

I have seen a few posts on this Audizine forum about how bad the quality the Milltek exhaust is for the S4, a few of them complain about exhaust leak, but it does not seem to be a problem here in the UK, bad workmanship in the states ?

I am going to have it done at this place called Mega4 in Surrey.... not sure how good these guys are, I think I will post a new msg and see if anyone on this forum has dealt with them in the past...

cheers.
