Should I buy an S4 Cab?

Post by jonno1 » Wed Jun 27, 2007 10:59 am

Until 2 years ago I had a B5 S4 Avant which had to go as the family expanded......now we have a family van and I drive a crappy Clio as my daily station car.....but I am seriously considering ditching that and buying myself a toy which all the family can enjoy on sunny days (if we ever have those again).....so am thinking of some open air motoring with a V8 soundtrack.......

Any tips? Any shockers? Other than the MPG?

Can you get a childs car seat in the back with the roof down?

If you just point me to a previous discussion on this sort of stuff that would be appreciated.

Hi JonS,

I recently traded up from a B5 saloon to a B6 S4 saloon, overall assessment - love the engine, shame about the rest of it. The build quality is really not upto scratch IMHO.

If you look on the Autocar site (check A4 review), there are numerous gripes, etc about oil consumption and gearboxes, the latter is one issue of many for me.

Would anyone suggest I go for a 3.0T instead as they are a good 10K cheaper........I've heard the 2.4 is not great but the 1.8t ok if underpowered given the extra weight.....any views?

They do not do a 3.0T Or do you mean the 3.0TDi? The TDi is no sloach but not up to S4 pace. If your looking for pace as well as the cab look then it has to be either the sooty or the V8. Stay away from the 1.8t or 2.4.
