Milltek - resonated or non?

Post by Amosu » Wed Jun 20, 2007 7:32 am

Seeing as I'm here, got a quick question.

I've seen a few clips with Milltek exhausts (including Scotty's trip up the mountain) and I'm fairly certain Milltek will be the system I replace my stock pipes with. Question is whether to go for the resonated or non resonated set.

Resonated have the extra 'part' int he middle - slight decrease in through flow and slight loss in power gain as a result, also slightly more expensive, but sound very good.
Non resonated gain slightly more power and a louder note (although I can't find any sound clips of a set) and are slightly cheaper.

However, the important factor here is if youget any noticable 'drone' in the cabin when you replace the stock set. I of course realise that the note will be deeper and more notceable (which is what I want), but I know that some exhaust systems give you a dull and vibrating tone in the cabin at certain speeds/rpm. I want to avoid that if at all possible as I have 2 young kids who occassionally nod off in the back (despite my hard driving!)

Anybody able to comment please?

You do get some drone with the resonated system, but it's not to bad. Are you also getting the sports cats fitted?

I'd say resonated is perfect for a family car.

It shouts enough when you want it to but at 3krpm and below it's still subtle enough.

The non-resonated is OK, as long as you're not going for the hi-flow cats later on - it's just too loud and very boomy when they're on.

Once the resonated Milltek is warmed up, it has a nice deep sound to it
