Scrubbing on S4 B6
I have recently bought a S4 B6 and found from the beginning that upon manouvering or turning and moving slowly you get a srubbing feeling from the front wheels. As this is my first quattro vehicle I dont know whether this scrubbing feeling/sound is normal.
Can anyone advise me on that?

RE: Scrubbing on S4 B6
Mine used to do that and the tracking was out.

Hi all,
Been lurking for a good while, finally made the purchase a B6 S4 Avant, extremely glad!!
Not to be off topic, mine does as well (scrubbing). Interested to see if tracking is the problem, something else or its just a trait of these cars!
Great site!!
Cheers

Mine does this but only when on full lock and more so when turning right than left. Fairly sure this is just a trait of the model from the sound of it

The Audi stealer told me that the front wheels can foul the inner wheel arch on full lock.
Not something I've noticed but I do have an occasional "clattering" sound from the front suspension/steering during low speed manoeuvres on a tight lock. (Naturally I've been unable to reproduce this noise for an Audi technician.)

I had them replaced because there was a cracking noise under the car when turning but only in the wet. The dealer tried a few different things to no avail, they then said they'd replace all the suspension and steering stuff to get rid of the noise and guess what, it's going back to the dealer as the noise is still there when it's wet.NotNormal wrote:For what reason did you have all the suspension and steering arms replaced??I-want-an-RS wrote:Mine too, more so now after it's service when all the suspension and steering arms were replaced and the tracking done.
ohh, and mine does the scrubbing thing also
BTW you'd be supprised how different(tighter) the car felt after having all the stuff replaced.

I have the same noise - cracking/clunking when turning to full lock. (right hand lock)
And mine also has to be wet to do it - fine in the dry.
My car has 32000miles on it.
What mileage is yours ??
Mine's been doing this cracking under full lock at low speed for ages, garage next door to where I work advised it's probably worn track rod ends and/or bushes. Have never got round to replacing them - they said it's not vital to get it put right urgently.
Very strange that you two only experience it in the wet though, mine's any weather. Also strange that replacing all steering components didn't cure it

Ditto - i got mine on 19k and it was fine, the more i use it the worse it's getting but then it dissapears-bloody anoying.I-want-an-RS wrote:My car has just over 15k and in the dry it is as tight as a nats ass, not a rattle, creak or anything but in the wet it's like a 500 year old house.
Audi had it for a week last week and heard it but couldn't find anything.
They used chassis ears ect.....
Mine has the same low speed clunk, and its only in the wet as well, its an 03 with just over 40,000 on the clock, and has just sailed through the mot at what I think is one of the better Audi main dealers "no fault found" although I havent yet taken the car in just to lokk at the problem.
Cheers steve

Quick update - just had all shocks & springs replaced, cracking has completely disappeared, car feels as tight as a gnat's arse. Seems it wasn't the track rod ends & bushes, on my car at least.
Would be interested to hear from anyone who has gone for a stiffer set up than stock, would like to know what difference it makes to the handling on the B6.
