Just deciding whether to ge for one of the last B5s or an early B6. Will only be able to afford a leggy B6 though - probably 80000 miles +.

Anyone running a high miler have any words of wisdom on what, if anything, has worn out / broken?

IMHO you cant beat the B5 twin turbo's. Much more fun

I'll start. In comparison the B5 has outdated looks, poor handling, abysmal brakes, poor ride and is not as quick when compared to the B6.

Disclaimer: All references to the ride and performance are based on stock vehicles. Obviously you can spend money modding the thing. With that in mind you might as well go out and buy a B6.

The only advantage the B5 has over the B6 is that you can modify the engine to produce a ga-zillion bhp. The B6 V8 is limited wrt potential engine mods, full sport exhaust system and a remap is your lot really. Unless you look at a Supercharger.

In addition APR are producing a supercharger kit for the V8, I expect it to be a good bit cheaper than the MTM equivelent.

I'm mulling over the idea of a supercharger too. The MTM price tag had put me off. Do you have any information on the APR S4 S/C?

Would be interesting to compare the APR & MTM back to back.

I read somewhere that the MTM and Abt superchargers were the same but with different badges. Don't know how accurate that is though.

All very interesting stuff - but not what I was asking -

Has anyone experience of running an 80000 mile plus B6 S4.
Does anything out of the ordinary / expensive wear out?

Errr.......No.

Yes. Currently on 120,000. Only thing that's gone was a bearing on the alternator, which, though expensive to repair, gave a chance for the Audi techs to have a good look at the engine - and there's not a leak in sight. Absolutely no problems with clutch, gearbox, exhaust...and I don't exactly drive like a pussy

I've run all my previous cars to high mileages (including a stock B5 S4, which was also very reliable), but I can confidently state the B6 has been the best at eating up miles without problems. Still feels brand new mechanically (though I'm sure the shocks aren't as tight as they were, which would be understandable).

So in answer to your question, as long as you check the obvious (brakes, tyres, interior wear etc), if it's reliabilty you're after, plus a newer car, I'd recommend the B6 all day long.
