Det is detonation.
Det Can's a kinda like head phones that you attach to the block and listen for det with

Detonation is basicly the ecu adding too much ignition and causing the fuel to be ignited at the wrong time thus losng power and not being right.

Blimey, is this a wind up ?

These cars have an electronic knock sensor on each cylinder. You just plug a laptop in to the diagnostics port and run software called vag-com and you can find out anything about the engine (or the rest of the car).

The ECU will be controlling the 'knock' (if there is any) anyway. You will not hear the 'pinking'.

Who is your tuner ? and have they told you the car is suffering from 'det'.

I would question any tuner that did not know this and thought it better for the untrained and unqualified to 'listen' for pinking.

My tuner hasn't inspected my car yet - it was advised (apparently poorly) by 2/3 people off the american audi site.

My car holds back on occasion and you can hear (throught the det can's) thats all isn't as it should be.

Aboviously my car has a faulty sensor then !

My cars booked in now as the software for my VAG-COM lead doesn't wanna work with the lead.

I shall see what the problem is

My tuner hasn't had the car nor have i had chance to speak with him as i've been working sadly.

It's booked in at Audi now for something else so they'll run a diagonostic check

You say i'm unqualified to listen for det but yet you know nothing about me.
I presume you have seen my low post count and assumed, wrongly, that i have no experiance with mapping and it's effect's both positve and negative. :x :(

It's a shame people jump in with both feet with sweeping statements before qualifying the situation

Shame I've only just seen this. I did wonder if it was going beyond the amount the knock sensors are able to <beep> the ignition.

What fuel are you running in it? It could also be the MAF making it run lean then pinking.

Were all the faults just the knock sensors?

Yes, all faults were just knok sensors.

Fuel, i usually run it on Total Exellium, but i put £150 worth of Shell V-power and £50 for BP Ultimate (which i'm not a fan off) through the car - made no/little difference. On shell it was slightly better - but only slightly, on the bp it made no difference

The MAF reading's are ok, had Quatronics check them today along with everything else .

I've got the stock map in for the time being, but the Revo one will be being sorted ASAP :)

I stand by what I said above, its just that you have faults which is a shame and unusual. I hope you get them sorted quickly and cheaply.

Let us know what the problem(s) are when you know.
