Retrofitting cruise control

Have just picked up my first S4 Avant and am chuffed to bits with the thing. But in the interest of keeping my licence and getting economy above 20MPG has anyone retrofitted cruise to this model?
The new stalks look quite cheap, and some web comments suggest that the wiring is in place, and then just needs the CPU enabling ? There are some other comments about the traction control needing checking at the same time. Presumably you need the VAG laptop to switch off the airbag so you can remove the steering wheel and fit the stalk?

Is your car a B6 or B7? I have done several A4/S4's to date, it's not too difficult if you're confident with a screwdriver and you have VAG-COM. From your post, I presume you don't, so it might be worth getting someone to do it for you.

I have some step by step instructions I wrote for the B6, the B7 is easier to do.

When I added the cruise control switch on my B6 S4 I also had to change the SCSM - because my car had neither MFSW or cruise Audi had fitted an SCSM that wasn't cruise capable.

Easiest way to check this is to see if the SCSM will accept the re-coding to enable cruise, if it won't then you need a new SCSM as well as the switch.
