Hooked on S4, new member saying hello...

Took a test drive in a B6 S4 today... Very impressed

Previous Audi drives have been lesser models (Audi Coupe around 10yrs ago, A3 5yrs ago, a mate's TT 2yrs ago) All had a nice feel, sturdy & well made but somewhat clunky and a little dull. Today though was a pleasant surprise - still 'Audi' but the V8 is very free-revving (lightweight flywheel??) and the whole car felt way more nimble than the old Coupe and the more recent TT despite a front-mounted V8 :D

Thanks to the contributors in this forum, I've had a good read and learnt some useful stuff... Two things struck me on todays drive which have been commented on in previous topics. Firstly the noise, or lack of! Not after a MaxPower effect (god forbid!) but it sounds like Milltek will be worth a visit if I take the plunge. Secondly the throttle seemed pretty sensitive and it seems there is an Audi TSB on that topic... does anybody have a copy?

Anyway, still got some decisions to make. Tip or manual... manual likely... I should try a Tip though... Ahh decisions, decisions

Not the busiest forum this, is it?

Anyhow, tried the Tiptronic now...

...And I don't get it? Very clever and very smooth for it's type but not sure that it's suited to this car. Anyone here a big fan of the Tiptronic - have i missed somthing?

I'm with Merlot on this one. Always thought tiptronic far more suited to big, lazy, "armchair" motors, like the A8/S8.

I have a manual but I did drive a Tiptronic at the Silverstone Audi Driving Experience. I'd definately go for a manual but the Tip was much better than I had anticipated.

Say no more! Pretty much how I feel now I've had a couple of days to consider it. Manual it is. :)

I know it is a slightly different car but I have become quite fond of the tiptronic gearbox. It actually makes driving twisty roads easier and smoother. (Probably safer too.)

I have a tip, I love it but I still rate the manual. However tip certainly suits the car in its present form...IMO of course. Dj
