B6 S4 tyre dilemma...

Hi guys, I know its been asked trillions of times but I am soon to be fitting some delicious MTM Bimoto 19" alloys and I was wanting feedback on extra load 235x35x19 tyres? Do I stick with the rather good Conti Conttact 2's or is there anything else out there worth a try? I'm not worried about which is the cheapest however....

Your thoughts please...
David

I need to clean my screen. I'm sure I read that the Conti 2's are "rather good". :bash:

I went from them to the Mich PS2's and they were much better. A firmer side wall improved the steering feel/reaction.

I then went for Goodyear F1s which I've liked on another car.

The next ones I'll try are the new Toyo's.

I guess it depends what you want - performance or mileage.

Toyo R's are a world of improvement on the inferior S's.; better side wall integrity and quieter

Conti's good, ur havin' a laugh

Even on her 'lowly' 1.8T quattro the Toyo R is so much quieter and the grip seems as good as the previous SO3 - or even better. Also better than the PZero Rosso, IMHO.

Had the PS2's on for a while now and no complaints, great combination of grip and longetivity

Very good call. They're the tyres I'll try next (unless you slate them!!) and I would have gone for those alloys but for the price! :beerchug:

...not sure about 19"s though. I find it firm enough for a daily run around already.

Agreed. I've actually been running on the standard Avus for ages now, took the 19" RS6 reps off, found my back was acting as a fifth suspension strut! Also found the fuel consumption using the 19"s was much worse - confused me as to why for a while, but the circumference of the RS6 reps + low profile tyres is actually less than the Avus + tyre = more revolutions needed per distance covered. I never did find out what effect using non-standard wheels has on the DIS & Sat Nav, anyone know?

HOWEVER, 19"s on the B6 do look the business, they fill the arches superbly - djbs4, looking forward to the pics! :nodder:

Pete, not sure if an overall mean difference in loaded circumference of 2.5mm per side of centres will make a whole lot of difference tween the 19" MTM's and the standard 18" Avus but me thinks that won't affect the fuel consumption nor the overall speed and ability to be able to locate one's self or eventual destination on the SatNav.....but I wil keep you posted and no doubt give some feedback whence I have the work carried out within the week hopefully. Phatnoise to be fitted too.............. :P 20GB of Cafe Del Mar, Paul Van Dyk, Tiesto, Blank & Jones and much much more...... :ban:

How much you getting the Phatnoise fitted for? I'm in the market at the moment.

Hi Scotty, I got the Phatnoise off Ebay around 270 squid if I recall rightly, and the local Audi dealer is fitting it for me at "accessory" price of 74 pounds. The same dealer had initially quoted me for supply and fitting for 649 pounds.......the guy on ebay had another 6 to sell on with Audi cabling to suit. :beerchug:

Cheers. I've seen that one. I'm checking this one out : http://www.phatnoiseuk.co.uk/pn_order.php

p.s. Back on tyres - I swapped to my track wheels today which have my old Mich PS2's on. They are definately noisier than my F1s. They feel good but I still recon the F1's have the edge in the dry and definately in the wet. Looking forward to your Toyo review.

OK Scotty, will do the biz next week. Pete S, I also did some more research into the difference between the standard 18x235x40 tyres versus the Toyo 19x235x35 and technically over a measured 1 kilometre the 19's turn 5 more revolutions than the 18's..... :nogarors4:
