Tyre Wear

Post by Dalton » Tue May 03, 2005 3:20 pm

Just had the tread checked on my tyres. There seems to be uneven wear on both of the fronts i.e.

NSF 1.6/4/4

OSF 2/4/4

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Any ideas why this should be?

Haven't experienced that tbh, first obvious question would be are the pressures correct? Can make a hell of a difference to wear, them just being out by a small amount....

I've been quite religious in checking the tyre pressures so I don't think that could be the reason.

Another thought I had was the additional wear might be due to that scrubbing noise you seem to get when you are turning at a slow pace, recal reading a thread that this was as a result of the wheels turning at different speeds.

Hi all. Iv'e just put the front wheels on the back and visa versa to even wear so they all need replacing together the only thing i noticed was that the outside edge of the front gets scrubbed. Your not far from me Dalton we'll have to meet up and swap notes I go to Curborough sprint course most Sundays.

The Sport Contact 2's come with more tread in the middle by about 2mm. The fronts on S4's do wear badly on the edges esp the insides.

Looks like it might just be a typical problem on the S4 then. I'll try not to worry any further.

It would be good to meet up B6S4John, I used to frequent Curborough but haven't been for some years now.

Excessive wear on inside edges is, uneven wear isn't (in my experience, 35k miles)

Toe/camber settings?

I had my 4 wheel geo checked at my Audi dealer (2 hours labour) and it was fine. Still toasted the inside of the fronts in 15k miles.
