...welcome me to the S4 B6 owners club!

After all the deliberation & tweaking of bank accounts, finally took the plunge, picked her up on Saturday. Metallic black, black leather, Sat Nav Plus, TV, DVD, cruise, armrest, RS6 alloys. Absolutely smitten. :D

For my everyday driving requirements, the car is exceptional IMO: yes the clutch is a little "fierce" on take up, but much lighter and easier to control than the B5, I love the gearbox contrary to several owners' comments, and the car looks the dog's danglies but still retains an air of exclusivety and class (I'm not a snob, honest :wink: )

The most disconcerting characteristic I've found is the way the car's steering suddenly weights up on cornering: not that it's a bad thing, just takes a little getting used to. You can literally be driving round town with one finger - the steering is so light (perfect for me) - then into a moderately fast corner and it's 2 hands on the wheel, or else....

But the power delivery is just gorgeous - effortless yet enthralling - and the noise! Oh the noise! Wasn't 100% convinced when I got to the dealers, but a quick blip on the throttle from the salesman with me & excited brother outside the car, and the deal was as good as done :twisted:

The car seems to be able to dispense of corners that would have drivers of other cars white-knuckled with such ease and grace, hardly a murmur from the ESP, and the suspension set up at speed is near perfect (though I can understand the comments regarding porpoising, but no road surface has spolit my enjoyment yet...)

My worries over MPG figures seem to have disappeared for the moment, though gentle town driving is knocking up around 15 - 16, and a long run at 75 mph produced 24. But what the heck, sod holidays this year, it's worth improving Mr. BP's pension just for the song from the tailpipes :)

Yeah, any paintshop program will do it...even the standard Microsoft picture editor....just pick a brush and paint over the number plate...

As for hosting, just upload into your gallery on here :P

When we first got ours it felt weird. Now neither of us even notice it. It changes with speed rather than if you're cornering or not. You'll get used to it very quickly.

Do you know what tyre model you have fitted?
Mine had Conti 2s supplied from the factory, but I changed to Michelin PS2s with great results - improved wet and dry weather handling and even wear (20k+).
I've just gone over the 40k miles mark, and it just seems to get quicker :D

They're Ventus Sports, whatever they are, seem ok, obviously almost new so will keep them until they've worn (particularly since they're 19"s). Seems like the PS2s are a popular choice, but I had Pilot Sports on my B5, and found they screeched even on moderately fast cornering. How do the PS2s square up re noise?

Also, anyone recommend a good, cheap tyre shop in the Hampshire/Surrey area? Have been using Micheldever: always cheapest, but I'm sure they've knackered the alloys on more than one occasion, though I could never be sure because the car was always dirty when I had to swap tyres. The company's focus is definitely on quick turn around rather than customer care I feel...

They were fitted and I've done about 70 miles on them in mainly torrential rain and flooded roads. I know they're not settled yet but so far they feel fine. I can't really comment on the traction or anything as I was not a day to be pushing hard.

Just to demonstrate how bad it was today :

I travelled a total of 115miles. My DIS still shows I have 260miles left in the tanks. My DIS average mpg fpr today was approx 26mpg!!!

The ride doesn't feel any different to the Conti's. I thought they were generating more road noise but that's probably as I had the seats down in the back so I could bring the old tyres home (I'll get a track day or two out of them by rotating f & r). I still miss the look of the Goodyear F1's I had on my TT. :?

I've had the occasional squeal from the PS2s but certainly no more than with the Contis.

And have you tried http://www.blackcircles.com?

They are quite competitive and every so often seem to have special deals.

I could not perceive any increase in general road noise compared to the Contis, and would say they're marginally quieter.

Having just worn out my last set (22K+) the wear has been even across the tread width without any evidence of pronounced edge wear exhibited by Contis.

I have the necessary technology to measure the relative noise, although at the time I didn't deem it necessary (couldn't be arsed).

I went to Quikfit and paid £600.00 fitted, although there was an offer on at the time.
