S4 test drive

Last week i was considering changing my toy for the new S4 avant, spoke to the dealer and by chance they had a year old full spec, but no sat nav. My thoughts were, warranty coming to an end, might have to actualy spend some mony on the car this year. Pads disks extended warranty etc. So i dove in to get a test drive. The couler was nice same Noggy blue, So off i went unfortunatly with the sales man. first impession was the engine sounded a bit Whiney at normal speeds but died away when you pushed harder, the grip was good, but with the passanger i couldn't realy push that hard into corners. The performance was a bit deceptive as my last three cars had turbos, so no kick in the back but when you looked at the speedo it was o dear. finaly got it back to the dealers and opened the window, and reving the engine the sound is great that rubbling V8, pitty it wasn't like that at low rev's. So i started to have a good look at the interior well to be truthful it looks like the bean counters are in charge here, the seats are realy just the old sports seats with the recardo badge, the dash dosn't have the same quality finish as the old S4, and small point but the foot rest is so close to the clutch i have to monover my foot past, and before you comment i've size 10's.
So the result was i,m keeping the toy for now but might be tempted by the new RS4 if it ever arrives. :nogarors4:

I'm surprised by the seat comments. I think they're superb and I believe they've won various awards in Germany. The car does seem to be well insulated from the noise and a Milltek certainly helps the sound. Tak e listen to this video clip on mine inside the car. The first bit is high rev stuff but at about 25 secs you hear the car from about 2.5k rpm. This is inside the car with all windows shut.

Video HERE

The dash looks similar to my TT but with a colour DIS. It seems fine to me although not exceptional.

I do agree on the small footrest space. I've caught my foot twice now (size 10.5 wearing D.M.s). :?

The sensation of speed is deceptive. I've also come from a turbo'ed car and the smoothness hides the acceleration as does the noise insulation. So far I haven't really been able to run side by side with anything other than a TT Roadster (which went backwards). Until that point I was wondering what my 400 ponies were doing!

With regards RS4 - it's definately coming but you'll have to be patient for a while yet.

When I test drove the modded S4 cabrio, they were calling it the 420 - a little ambitious methinks.

I also had a chat with AMD and they were very confident about getting at least 400. Well they would say that, I thought, but they said they could show me evidence.

My plots actually show 395.3 bhp but this was done with 577miles on the clock. I'll be running it again in the next couple of weeks and I'm sure it will exceed 400bhp. The graphs off my car are can be found at the bottom of the page linked to HERE.

I also looked at the New S4, I really love the shape and styling, I think it looks more aggresive then the B5 S4 personally, but on a recent visit to Thruxton to meet the Stig and AudiSport UK I got to hammer one round the track, not bad but the 2 S4's that were bought along soon got broken!

One just wouldnt restart and the other seemed to have a problem with its axle (not sure, but thats what stig thought was wrong). I am now in the throws of trying to justify buying an RS4, I really like the feel of the Turbo's kicking in, my S4 (B5)has been tampered with by QST and so is really alive now, but I know it wont be long before I will want more ponies!

Remove the / in the first pair of [] brackets.
/ means end so you only have it in the closing code.

The news on S4's doesn't sound good. Lets hope it was a coincidence on the day.
