It's now time for the 'first service'...

Well...it had to happen sooner or later, but I'm now at 17k+ miles and my S4 Avant requires its first service. Its booked in for this Monday and I’ve warned my bank manager…!
I've not had any serious problems with the car so far (almost 5 months old) apart from some interesting performance issues depending on what fuel / brand mixture balance I end up with. This fuel 'blend' is largely dependant upon my geographical location and the available supply at that time. My current preferred blend is a approx 60 Shell Optomax / 40 BP Ultra-unleaded, anybody else noticed this?
I'm quite pleased that my tyre wear isn't as bad as I thought it would be, as I've still got approx 1 / 1.5mm above the wear markers, and on that basis, I would hope to get another 4-5k miles more. Has anyone got any recommendations regarding tyre make / model that would give an overall improvement over the standard Conti's and especially with regard to road noise and lateral traction?
I have noticed that every once in a while, if you blip the throttle to approx 2000/2500 rpm the engine management will hold the revs for 1-1.5 seconds before returning to idle, even though you’ve released the accelerator. I’ve noted this one for the dealer.
Overall I’m still grinning

Hi Wombat
I've just checked my Audi service schedule booklet and it states the following:
All Audi vehicles are filled with the special Longlife engine oil at the factory, However, the inspection Service will be required in some export countries.
Therefore, your cars service indicator will advise when you are required to perform a service on that particular vehicle.
My DIS is stating that I'm required for a service within the next 1700 miles or 250ish days. This service interval has been determined and set by the factory. It does state that you must undertake the Longlife service (It always includes an oil change) within 24 months as the oil is affected by ageing.
I would deduce that if you were to replace your oil at the first service with NON Longlife oil due to cost, then you would have to revert to fixed interval servicing. Also I’m not sure if you could swap back to AVS once down graded to fixed interval servicing.
I would like your dealer’s opinion...?

When I bought my car, the service indicator read 17800 miles and the salesman said it would most likely come down with use. He was right - it now reads 17600 miles.
I was also told that Audi would respect the AVS reading by the same bloke. I hope he was right - he's left Audi now.

I checked with my dealer today regarding long life servicing and he confirmed that long life oil is supplied by the factory by default, and owners should follow the info supplied by the DIS of when to take for a service.

Just checked service indicator:
800 Miles on the clock. Next service due in 11,800 Miles - Gulp!
Going to Hendon tomorrow on a long run, maybe the service indicator will improve after some gentle motorway driving...?!? (Hope so).
PS. Anyone happen to know if there are any accident black spots (cameras) on the new M6 toll road?

Well...for those of you that are interested...The first AVS at main dealer was.....£313.97 inc VAT ....and was about what I was expecting (the amount of that special oil was the worst bit.
DIS is now showing "next service in - 18,500 miles"
