slight misfire up the top of the rev range

Post by ozzyboy » Mon Feb 15, 2016 8:20 pm

standard S4 has a slight miss when revving to red line

does this point to anything specific ie.coilpack, plugs camchain

Start simple, when were the plugs changed? do you have any stored fault codes in the ECU, get it checked with VCDS and then move forward from that.
Missfire can be anything from plugs/coilpacks/fuel filters/injectors/ecu fault etc etc..

so best of starting with the basics and moving from point to point.

Hi mate, i either use Simon at QuickSalePerformance they are located in Ferryhill or i use Revolution in newcastle Glenn is the man there.
Both fantastic places! never had any issues with either.. i know simon well so i usually go there and use Revolution if its something big like aux tensioner replacements etc as they deal day in day out with RS's.
QSP always have decent cars from porsches to Alfa GTA's but sometimes hes really busy etc...

Either or mate they both good! im just waffling now!

I'd offer my own service (i can certainly plug it in as i have a vcds cable) but barring that unless it brings an obvious fault i wont have much time to look into it.
Plugs change i'd happily do and coil packs etc, the setup isnt much different to my dads RS4.. if it was an RS6 i'd tell you to leave me alone for about 4hrs haha! as thats how long it takes... nightmare. but i'd rather that then pay Audi £450

had it on diagnostics and following came up

misfire on cylinders 3-4-5-8
solenoid valve right engine mount circuit interruption

going to try one new coilpack on the cylinders one at a time

forgot to say
the misfire is more apparent at mid range
top end seems good and strong
ticks over fine

lear the codes and it goes great but fault comes back within a few hundred yards

I'd try a set of plugs first! having marked it out on a sticky pad, there is no pattern to these missfires ( i thought maybe one bank) but its not
replace the plugs then move forward onto diagnosing coil packs, you can move the "bad packs" around to see if the cylinder missfire moves to another cylinder then its coil packs.
But as i said start simple first.

once past coil packs and plugs then its into more dangerous territory! haha

had a look in the history
just had full service 500 miles ago with plugs filters etc

might be lucky
cylinder 3 was the only one that wouldnt clear
replaced it with a brand new pack and it seems to be fine

only fault code left now is the solenoid valve on right 17985 code

Looks to be coilpacks then... Whats the solinoid code for?

Glad its sorted though bud!
