Changing the Battery

Post by SevenR » Sun Feb 07, 2016 4:53 pm

Hi folks.
I've bought a replacement battery and have just tried to fit it. It looks like the clamp at the front of the car is only accessible by removing a solid metal bar (Strut brace?) which is over the top of it. Surely this can't need to be removed in order to change the battery? Seems like a hell of hassle to do such a simple thing.
Any advice is welcomed.

I'd be surprised if the S4 came with a stray brace from the factory. Sounds like a previous owner has fitted an aftermarket strut brace that is blocking your access to the battery. Photos will help though.

I changed mine last year. When I looked into the bay where the battery was I thought how the f... do you get that back in!

The fwd bolt that holds the clamp down should have a handle that comes up over the structure so you can pull the bolt out and relocate it after.
Took a little bit of figuring out but obvious when you see it!

Sorry guys, not been on much so didn't see these posts. Finally got it done on Saturday there. I had to buy a long ball end allen key (5.5mm I think was the one I used). That could fit down between the gaps and into the battery bolt at an angle. Took a fair bit of turning as it's a long bolt but got there!!
Battery back in, turned the key and fired up straight away.
Can finally put it back up for sale.
