What's my Avant worth if I were to break it?

Post by VAGMAN » Tue Jan 20, 2015 2:11 am

My B6 S4 Avant is very poorly! Engine failure, needs considerable cash throwing at it. So I'm weighing up my options to minimise my losses. My options as I see it are:
Repair it (cost of approx 2.5k)
Break it up (value unknown)
It has the following spec:
Manual transmission
Full black leather Interior with carbon trim
Milltek cat back exhaust system
Has the RNS-E navigation/ CD/ DVDs / radio
Standard 18 inch wheels with nearly new Michelin ps2's front 2, continental rears & spare
Roof bars with bicycle carrier

Any input appreciated. Thanks, Will.

Rough guesses...

Manual transmission. - ? Likely to sit around, but might get lucky if you list cheaply on eBay. Check eBay for going rates.
Full black leather Interior with carbon trim. £250 ish carbon trim, poss c.£1k for interior (comfort seats)
Milltek cat back exhaust system - £500
Has the RNS-E navigation/ CD/ DVDs / radio - £400
Standard 18 inch wheels with nearly new Michelin ps2's front 2, continental rears & spare - £500
Roof bars with bicycle carrier - depends on carrier, prob £150 for the lot

Shell to consider but prob scrap as essentially an A4 shell.
Any salvageable engine parts?

Likely breaking would mean a lot of items would just sit around, some may never sell. So you would need to allow for storage and time breaking or cost if you are not doing it yourself.

What mileage was the car on and what condition and history? What engine issues did you have, was it the chain tensioners?

It depends how much your car is worth when running and how much you owe on it.
If the difference is more than it costs to fix your engine, then I would fix the engine and get the car running. Then you have the choice to keep it or sell it on. As breaking it would be a right pain, the time, advertising, dealing with people, getting let down. Money dripping in.
If it was me I'd fix it.

Don't break, never worth it you will have a few quid in your bank and a <beep> load of rubbish to get rid off, it will end up being a full time job listing on eBay or scraping the unwanted items.

Fix and move on.
