Braking Bad

I've had the low pad alert on for a few weeks now so I'll be changing them soon. I've had recommendations of Yellow Stuff and OEM Pagids before. Has anyone else had good experience with anything else?

I'll probably do the front discs too. Is OEM best for that price level?

OEM discs aren't too expensive from Audi or TPS. From memory its about 100 a disc and 100 for all four pads. I priced mine up but sold the car before I needed to replace them

Oh and worth checking its not just the pad wires that have broken off. Both right and then six months later left came off on mine giving the 'low pads' light on the dash. Cut wires back, wound them together, taped and sheathed them back up. My pads had at LEAST 30% left and didn't even get a mention when Audi serviced it.

Yeah, that's a point. Is the only way to check the wires to strip the brakes down?

My pads rattle in the holders so I'd be quite happy for an excuse to change them anyway.

Nah, you only need to take the wheel off. And you can do it with the steering straight iirc.

First time on the right hand side, one of the two wires wasn't attached any more, it was just flapping around, so I pulled the second one away, shortened both wires, stripped insulation / wound together / re-insulated / wrapped up

Second time on the left hand side both wires were barely still attached, so I just pulled them both off, repeated above

Easy job if you have a trolley jack - although particularly unpleasant when its 2 degrees outside

Well, in the end I went for Tarox G88 discs and Ferodo DS2500 pads. The whole lot cost nearly £100 more than OEM from Audi but they should be better.

I got them both from Demon Tweeks with a 10% discount code (valid until 31/03/15):
