S4 Convertible advice please

Post by Ben337 » Fri Jul 18, 2014 1:08 am

Hi all,

I'm going to view a lovely S4 convertible on Saturday morning. Its an 04 plate very low miles and full dealer service history. I have always wanted a V8 Audi, so very very excited! However this is my worry too. I am sure I will love it and don't expect there to be anything obviously wrong with it, so will be itching to sign on the dotted line.. So is there anything I should be looking for at all? Any advice from experienced owners would be much appreciated. I know about the fuel and insurance costs so have no worries there. The V8 is what it is. It will be a second car so will be garaged when not in use and hopefully will keep the miles low. I am into my detailing so hope to keep it as spotless and shiny as possible if I do purchase it!

Thanks so much

Ben

Cold start chain rattle, if it lasts even a second or two walk away
Can be heard with the bonnet up at back of motor by bulkhead
It's the cam chain tensioners and plastic guides
Motor out job to fix and expensive

Aircon units go easily and power steering motors

Control arms not that robust so listen for clunks.

Clutch wear and tear item but make sure not soggy as clutch normally take flywheel out at same time and is not cheap

If you buy, JHM motorsports in the US have loads of after market replacement and performance bits

Oh and skip on a Millie and get the fast intentions exhaust, YouTube it

Great cars, loads of character

Still miss mine

Thanks so much HLBeckley :jump_clap:

I will check these out for sure, I have been doing a bit of web research (obviously) and have come across the same as you mention on the tensioners (engine out job) and clutch taking out the flywheel (£2.5kplus) job.

Interesting on the exhaust/enhancements :nodder: :bigblink: I will take a loo at these for sure.

I will of course update how it goes. Thanks again

WOW!!! What a morning and what a fab car I have just been to see and test drive.
Done a great deal on it, got 2 year comprehensive warranty. Nothing wrong at all I could find. Got there first thing so got the first cold start up and it was absolutely as sweet as. Its auto Tip too so no clutch worry.
Have put a deposit and hopefully sort the rest and delivery next week.
Will pop up a new post once I have it.

Thanks again HLBuckley

Looking forward to finally being is the S4 B7 club :kissmyrings: :jump_clap:

Cheers Ben
