I averaged 33.6mpg on a 120 mile round trip from Cov to Bedford this week. M1 was busy so cruise at 60, A roads cruise at 50-60. This included a brief play with a GTR :FIREdevil:
Fuel consumption is better at 60m than 70, and better at 50 than 60.
Average for past 1000 miles is 25 mpg.
AMD custom remap + Milltech, 352 BHP.
Daytona RS6 saloon, KW v3s, Hotchkiss ARBs, Milltech non res, MRC

Can't believe you got 33mpg out of a non-FSI engine, sounds like your DIS is not right. Have you tried filling the tank and and recording the miles to confirm the DIS reading is reasonably accurate, best I get is around 275miles from a tank which is around 22mpg in mixed motoring based on fill ups and mileage.

I agree that the DIS lies, but 275 miles is 22 mpg? You wish!! Sorry to break the news: :boohoo:

The tank is 66 litres which is 14.537 gallons. 22 mpg would be a range of 320 miles. Working backwards, 275 miles would be an economy of 18.9 mpg. My best ever distance on the trip was 328.3 (photo to prove!!) and I managed to squeeze in 65.5 litres, works out at 22.75 mpg.

I never run the tank to completely empty i.e. when the car complains it's hungry so I usually get 56-57 litres in for a fill up and for 275 miles that equates to around 22mpg. Getting 33mpg must have been a horribly frustrating experience for the car  , if you're after economy buy a prius..

I have managed 30mpg+ on the computer a few times. I also verify this on fill up by seeing how many litres it takes, converting to gallons and seeing how many I did from last fill up - that verifies my computer which I think is accurate. For example I filled up tonight with a range of 60 miles left, put in 50 litres to fill it up and I had done 275 miles - this equates to exactly 25mpg average for that 275 miles - which was varied driving, plenty of traffic. I have an AMD remap and running over 350BHP as per AMD Essex's rolling road. I believe the remap helps consumption as well as power and it's tuned on the rolling road so matches the car perfectly.

So believe :bigwave:

I can only say that I'm impressed (and depressed!) by some of the figures quoted above...

In 4 years of ownership my B6 S4 does 200 miles in the summer on approx 55/56 litres (I fill up shortly after the warning light comes on, which is usually at 30 miles range left), and 180 miles in the winter (Climate Control on) - that's 17mpg and 15mpg. The "long term" DIS reading is 17.8mpg, which I've not reset since I got the car.

While the majority is city driving, an 80 mile weekend round trip can increase the range to 210/220 miles, and the long term MPG is impacted by a few track days (which may be offset by a couple of long motoring holidays...).

Nevertheless, it's probably true that if you have to ask the price.... And every mile is a pleasure with the lovely V8 rumble!

Burnley to Coventry on Thursday evening, managed to miss all the usual delays and did take the toll road to avoid Brum at 5.30pm - exactly 2 hours (the warning flashed up as i was in the roundabout above Jnt2 of the M6) to cover 134 miles and i saw 27.2 on the DIS (it had been 27.5 at one point) :)

Thats pretty good. Yours is a tip - do you tend to knock it left into manual mode to 'lock' it in top on the motorway, stop it downshifting etc?

I hadn't thought of that, I'll give it a try and see what happens

I dont understand how you all get such dismal fuel economy either, do you have any self control ??

When I bought my S4 the seller told me his missus could get near 40mpg on a good run ( bearing in mind the engine needs to heat up properly and that probably takes 15 - 20 mins of driving anyway ), I laughed a bit and apologised to him but I thought it was just patter, however on my 200 mile trip home I averaged 35mpg and that was with a few quick squirts when the road cleared.

I reckon I could win this one lads, let me get my dog collar, nervous friend and classical chill out CD and I will see what I can do :sleeping_2:
