That was the view yes. The power & torque curves were certainly more linear after the remap but I just didn't notice any tangible improvement. I'd like to think I did considering the spend but being honest I just couldn't. That's not to say everyone would notice the same but from my limited experience of NA tuning you have to expect small gains for a high cost which is what makes me say if you really aren't happy with the performance, long term you'd be better off changing cars.

As a newcomer to the S4 stable I am very happy with the performance and power on tap. You may have saved me a fortune ;)

I spent £1000 on an exhaust and roughtly the same from memory on the remap and filters and other than volume it gave no noticable improvement at all. It's just not worth the effort and expense, either spend some real money and supercharge it, buy a faster base Audi or enjoy it as it is. It's not exactly slow in standard form?!
I wouldn't make a sweeping platform wide comment on potential gains based on your one poor experience with a remap

My B7 S4 when stock ran 13.8 @102 mph in the 1/4 mile (0-400m)

With precats gutted, jhm 2.5" exhaust and a JHM remap it went 13.2 @ 106

With cat less jhm 2.5" Downpipes, exhaust and a revised JHM remap it went 12.9 @ 107.7 my. The same day a mate was there in his bone stock B6 S4. He filmed this...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8G9bgOr_NY

His best of the day was 13.84 @ 102.1

I wouldn't say every company's remap would give this success though. Moat are tosh. By the same token you shouldn't say every remap would give the same poor results you had.

I used to put 3-6 car lengths on GIAC and APR tuned B67 S4s in pulls. There was really a huge difference. The change in the car was massive. It gained about 50 ps and even more torque.

Here's another friend of mine with a B7 S4 with JHM 93 us octane remap (98 UK. Eur), precats gutted, JHM fast intention exhaust... Vs a bone stock 2007 B7 RS4.

I totally take your point and agree with most of what you say and I think my custom made exhaust was partly to blame but my point still stands about NA tuning. With no other mods (other than filters) an MRC stage 2 remap would see 20-30ps gain on a B7 S4. A stage 2 rmap on my C6 RS6 for example would see a 130+ps increase. It's about expectations to some extent and when I spent £2k I expected (possibly unrealisticly) more to show for it. The ratio of £/BHP gain is not usually great on NA cars.

I also have never done any drag racing but the times you quote look a tiny bit better but not by much, does this actually look like more when you see it in real life?

Don't get me wrong, I loved my S4 but when all was said and done I just wished I'd left it alone and enjoyed it in its standard form but it's personal choice, I'm just sharing my thoughts.

Edit - Just also thought about the B8 S4, a better example of forced fed tuning than the RS6 example. Stock power 333ps (from memory), Revo remap and somewhere between 450-485ps, quite a gain. Just watch Chris Harris compare the B8 RS4 to the B8 S4 with and without the remap (on YouTube).

OK so my memory is clearly fading in my old age. 411ps is what they quote, still an impressive gain. I think I got the 480ps figure from talking to MRC which was I think was their stage 2 approx gain. Either way it's more bang for your buck!

Personally I'd go to MRC everytime, they will be doing all the work on my C6.

P.S. Wow your TTS has some power, it must be a rocket ship!

For perspective, a full second in the quarter mile results in a little over 10 car lengths gap.

Those same cars in a pull from 40-120 mph would mean about 5-6 car lengths.

I got round to dynoing the car last year at Wallace Performance. It did 373bhp/329lbft so I gained at least 34bhp/27lbft assuming my car was running the quoted 339bhp/302lbft to start with which I doubt it was so I've maybe gained a wee bit more than that (wish I had dyno'd before as well as after the mods). That's with 2.5" catless DP's and JHM map, all in for £860.. Well worth it for the noise alone!
