A Few Newbie Questions

Evening all

Sat in an S4 for the first time today - really quite impressed - 2003 - 21 k miles and it looked like new.

Dealer stated 17-19k miles as typical service intervals, is this realistic?

He also said costs for service - can't remember exactly off the top of my head - GBP200-odd, then GBP400-odd depending on whether big or little. Is this realistic - or are there hidden extras?

Never owned an Audi before - how good is the factory warranty?

I read somewhere that you could extend warranty over 100,000 mile - has anyone done this?...and if so, how fair are they over the fair wear and tear issue?

Anyone do high mileage in an S4 (I do 25-30k a year) and would love to know if there are any known problems

Hi Guy, welcome aboard

Previously I owned a B5 S4, which I covered 150k miles in, and am now up to over 60k in my B6 (same shape as the one you sat in), no major problems whatsoever. I'd simply recommend the usual - no caning the engine 'til oil warm, regular oil change etc etc.

Have just come out of warranty (60k miles/2 years), I'm still wondering whether to extend, but given my experiences of S4s so far I may not; you can, though, buy a warranty extension with unlimited mileage (no longer direct from Audi but via a third party, I think it's Mondial). With the extended warranty being unchartered territory for me, I can't help with your question of fairness on their behalf on wear & tear issues.
The factory warranty though is fine: used it a few times on the B5 and a couple on my B6, just to sort out little niggles here & there.

The service costs/intervals you quoted are pretty much spot on.
