I'm looking at a 04 S4 cab at an Audi main dealer, the car has had as far as I can tell some sort of AMD remap and a full exhaust system. Does any one know how this would effect the warranty, getting it MOted etc? The dealer said they will look after me if it blows up, but what happens if it goes to another dealer for service etc.
Also does it effect the price, they want £36K of it, the milage is 7700, its a standard car apart for the tuning, an after markey satnav system. I must admit I always thought tuning devalued a car in general.
I look forwards to your comments.
Thanks

Is it a proper dealer? Its not turbo so the remap is fairly benign compared to turbos, exhaust is strictly limited in its effects.
Major price determinant on hairdresser cars is can they afford it.
Its not a serious driver's car, its a car to give to your bird. Unless she is exceptional, why tune it?
As you appear to have a taste for this stuff, why not consider the Gayman S? It will hold its value much better.

RE: tuning and resale on S4 Cab
its a very nice looking car, with a well appointed interior and the plastic is not too hideous.
It is not as rigid a car as the saloon or estate, so not a fantastic choice for the performance nuts.
Chipping a normally aspirated car does not yield the benefits that it can on a turbo engined car and the performance as opposed to aural benefits from the exhaust are not great either.
There is not a great deal of room in the rear seat and its complicated by anti-backdraft devices. For most people its a nice cruisy car. In that context, the performance mods are a bit wasted.
It really does suit ladies who lunch, daughters who pop down to the country for the weekend and antique dealers' boyfriends - you can slide one of those cheval mirrors in the back like a surf board, very St.James chic!
Really, if this is what you want, I'd look for one that is without the tuning extras, they just raise questions at sale time. Also, you can only sell one of these in the Spring, otherwisse you take a big hit on depreciation.
In general, the only German cars that hold their values are Porsche sports cars. My experience with high performance Audis is that it would have made more economic sense to have bought Ferraris.
If you are a girly -'good on yer, dear' - (joke)

No I'm not a girly
I'm looking at three cars , S4 Cab, Boxster, SLK.
The reason why I'm looking at the S4 is I like convertibles, but I also like performance. The heart says buy the porsche, but sometimes I like to take the family out.
I do know the car will not be as rigid, but in my experiance for normal spirted driving on the road, it doesn't make that much difference. In my 911 targa i only noticed a slight difference when driving far to fast!!!!!!
I agree if I was looking for a track day car, I would have a hard top or a car designed from scatch as a soft top.
The question is are people happy with the S4 Cabs.

Yes, I'm happy with my S4 Cab. It's not a track car although I have tracked mine a couple of times.
The nearest alternative to it would be the M3 Cab. The Boxster S would be my choice if I didn't want a practical(ish) car.

Our choice was Boxter S or S4, untill I saw loads of engines in a Porsche garage and found out about the oil leak problem cracked bores ect and the crap warranty.
