Guide needed for the AMD 1,2,3
typo, sorry - OBD - on board diagnostics.
Its where you plug in a VAG-COM or dealer tool to check error codes etc.
Cost is roughly the same as AmD chip (circa £500 notes) and APR are pretty well respected - indeed, they are a bigger name than AmD in the USA I gather...
The UK main agent is Awesome GTI (who are based in Cheshire, I understand) but there are agents around the country including Star Performance in Scotland and theTTshop down in Bedford.
I've mailed off about a possible Group Buy (if the RR results are worth boasting about!) so we'll see...
Didn't get my car back today. See my other thread...

Dippy,
Firstly apologies if my post caused any confusion :
Thanks for the info. An interesting comparison. Mine does start winding up at around 3-3.5k rpm and flies into the limiter (7200rpm )without it feeling like it's tailing off. This is actually where I do a lot of over taking. When other cars are pulling away from standstill or accelerating and they go to change gear I'm still flying so it exagerates the acceleration and give great over taking ability. It's also useful at roundabouts being able to accelerate and hit 30 or so in one gear.
It would be interesting to run them side by side though.
TinkyWinky,
Currently my recommendation would be wait and see. I've not really "driven" mine since AMD so hopefully I'll get a chance over Easter. If it's still as I explained I'll talk to AMD and see where we go. APR is interesting and I had a very good experience of their switchable software in my TT.
[1] I turned it down
[2] because it was a silly price for the gains. I may still get one myself and fit it DIY. This is how most are done in the US.

It was meant to say "... but I'm NOT sure ..."Have you got any graphs so I can see how peaky the peak is? I know the B5 S4's tune really well but I'm sure if they're really laggy or quite flat.

With yours being quite a bit lighter I don't think I would. You can draw your own conclusions from this!

Jampott - there's two reasons for this :I probably have the only Hyperflow fitted to a UK B6 S4

Scotty,
Sounds like you're as suited for the B6 as I am not: Although fortunately my S4 is now tuned such that going up to the redline does not lose acceleration (as do B5's with OEM cats), I rarely drive in that region. I really love the torque of a turbo car so I spend most of the time in the plateau region.
Is the B5 really "quite a bit lighter" than the B6? I know that the engines weigh about the same (as Audi stated when the B6 was announced), so what has Audi done to the B6 to make it weigh significantly more?
TinkyWinky,
Yes I recommend AmD, but not without reservations. A few years ago, just after Scott (an ex-prizewinning Audi tech) joined and Geoff (their remapping guru) was still there, they were a great company who gave personal service and worked hard to please customers. Since then they have become even more successful and as a result their customer service is now variable. They also seem to have neglected their 'specialist' side and and focussing on 'off-the-shelf' tuning which is more profitable. I cannot blame them for this, but it is a shame. I still go to AmD for my servicing and if and when I need new turbos I will probably return to AmD for that too.
If you do go to AmD then I recommend that you make your expectations clear and ask them to state clearly to you what they are offering and how much it will cost. Then when they have done the work, get them to explain what they did, and check it for yourself. This might seem a bit picky, but sometimes you need to help people to help you.

It certainly suits me for now. After driving the TT, the S4 makes for easy, possibly even lazy driving. I don't have to work to keep it on the power. Maybe I'll crave a turbo again in the future, who knows?Dippy wrote:Scotty,

With regards the weight although the engine is the same , I think they added more crash protection, features etc etc which all add to the weight. I don't actually know the difference in weight though!

I guess it depends on your interpretation of "facelift". Bar the steering wheel, the interior is identical I've been informed, but the exterior has been completely re-worked, and I'm sure I've read somewhere the panels are of different construction. Put it this way, it's a far more comprehensive "facelift" than the B5 experienced in '99
