I've only just noticed this, but if you're cruising with the auto air-con on, and you wash the windscreen, the blower stops temporarily. I'm guessing the temp sensor for the cabin is located in or near the windscreen, and the sudden burst of washer fluid on the screen causes the system to recalculate?
Another thing that was puzzling me over this last, cold, weekend. Had the temp set to 20, and the blower was making a hell of a racket (this is still whilst m/way cruising, so no open windows/opening doors etc). If I increased the temp, the blower slowed, but I would have thought it would be the other way round (being that the outside air was so cold, thus you'd expect the air con system to not have to work as hard to maintain a cooler temp).
Anyone?
Here's one for ya...
RE: Here
The washer thing is programmed in so you don't gt a massive waft of washer fluid. I always seem to be able to smell if afterwards anyway.
The fan speed thing is the same as when you first get in the car. If won't blast air through until it can product it at approximately the right temp. As it gets into it's swing it's able to produce more at that temp and thus put more through the system by turning up the fan.

Re: RE: Here
But surely, because of the ambient temp outside (ie cold), the system wouldn't need to produce more by turning up the fan? That's what I can't get, the fan SLOWS when I INCREASE my required temp in the cabin (and stays slower). The nearer one sets the required temp in the cabin to the temp of the outside air, I would have thought the fan would not have to work as hard to maintain the cooler setting?Scotty wrote:As it gets into it's swing it's able to produce more at that temp and thus put more through the system by turning up the fan.

RE: Re: RE: Here
The weird thing is the "and stays slower" comment.
Mine starts slow, speeds up when is capable of pushing out the required temp and then, as you suggest, it starts to slow the fan as the temp is approached.

Yes, it was doing me bloody nut in all the way down the M40 trying to work it out! Maybe some weird atmospherics going on that night
