Replace gearbox and rear diff oil B7 S4? Standard procedure?

Nothing for the B7 S4 is found in the search results, can anyone confirm that to replace gearbox and rear diff oils is a sraight forward procedure as with general manual 4x4's? I know how to replace the oil obviously, but I don't want to cause myself any aggro'.
I've seen on other forums that VCDS must be employed as the oils need to be at an optimum temp before draining etc? Or is this just guff?
