She needs a few pieces, help me!

Post by randomshenans » Tue Nov 12, 2013 1:05 pm

So it's rolled around that time where I could do with a couple of things being replaced/fitted and as such I thought I'd research my options on here. It's been a while... I stopped looking on here as my now wife didn't like random expensive packets arriving at home. All this forums fault. Honest.

Firstly, brakes... The front discs and pads need replacing and I'm thinking, "why not replace the calipers with the Q7/Cayenne ones while I'm there?"
Seems logical. When it needs replacing, upgrade.

I've found a couple of calipers I'm going to keep my eye on, but then do I need the bolts from JHM? http://jhmotorsports.com/shop/catalog/f ... p-467.html

Also, cost wise I'd like to keep it below the "WHAT DID YOU SPEND ALL THIS ON?" amount, so won't initially be going for the JHM lightweight rotors, but what size should I get and what are my options? Same with pads, what are rated and good VFM? :bash:

Secondly, I am looking at replacing the RNS-E with an Alpine ICS-X7HD - anyone have one of these? Do you know the fitting when you have the bose system? Adapters etc?

3rd - I have a couple of faint knocks when going over bumps, I say knocks, you know you can just feel it in the wheel. Based on what I know it'll be the bushes up front, so I will get a bush set for this, but what is best to get? Which are best for price and everything? :thumb:

FORFLEEEEEE!!!! I have the wiring harnesses for heated seats front and rear, which I'd like to fit (I have the control units too) I can't seem to find a harness fitting guide for these, and would I need to unlock anything in Vagcom too?

I think that's it for now. I also have an ECT sensor throwing me an engine warning light, so I bought another one, nice and cheap for the sensor but what a <beep> it looks like to fit. That's this weekend then! I'm going to attempt to do it without full CAT removal, as that is totally bonkers.

Lastly I also have a whine that's just developed from the PS pump (assumption, based on my knowledge of the car) at idle, which seems to either disappear or be drowned out as revs increase. It only was there this morning, so hoping it's just the fluid level as I don't fancy the bill for a new one.

Should keep me busy now it's getting cold!

Thanks in advance :s4addict:

i know the rs4 brake setup bolts on, could pick up a second hand set of calipers and new disks for £1000
ferodo pads seem good but dusty.
not changing the rnse in mine becouse when you do you get a blank part on the dis which i dont like, people have changed then tho mainly to the newer version of the rnse
heated seat harness? you need the heated seat elements in the seats also, have you got these?
whine could be aux drive belt tensioner

I heard that all Recaro seats came with the heater element in the seats, it was a case of the wiring and the control in the back/ front? This not the case?

Whine I think it PS as it seems to change when steering, especially at low crawling speeds.

RS4 stuff vs Cayenne stuff? What's the difference?

Also, muffler/ back box deletion... simply a case of cutting off the backbox and welding on a new pipe through to tips? It sounds ANGRY.

I also looked at the OBX cheapy american exhausts to get and cut the backboxes off, free up some ponies. That, possibly coupled with: http://www.ebay.de/itm/230888482560?ssP ... 1423.l2649 decat downpipes.

What say you?

Cleaned the thing at the weekend, inside and out, so she's finally de childed for a bit at least.

Oh, and the lovely Mrs has agreed to buy me the Alpine ICS-X7HD for my birthday in a couple of weeks, so proper looking forward to getting that. The RNS-E is locked at the moment and I can't find the code. I'll pop to audi to get it, but either way it's not got the integration I want now.

Need to order a couple more tyres for it and I'll get the front arm set too. I also saw Paul on here on Friday, we'll have to get together as I am totally going to steal his lowering springs too. :jump_clap:

Got the radio unit and have the rns-e out right away. I've ordered what I think is the right thing: http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/ct53-au ... so-adaptor

Can anyone confirm?

There is a bit that won't put the setup on unless it's got it's parking brake on too. I read you can try and ground this and see if it works, but else, what's the best way to hook this up?

Thanks!
