This may or may not help, but I had to have both my valve cover gaskets replaced last year as my spark plug seals had perished, and they only come in a kit with the valve covers.. like this: http://jhmotorsports.com/shop/catalog/v ... _56_61_240

When they were done the mileage on my car was circa 55k.

Also, out of interest.. when the garage did the head gaskets, did they do the valve stem seals too? As you can get kits with or without..

ok, have returned from the dealer. Apparently the worst of the oil leak has been fixed by replacing the centre cover (part no. 079 103 221 C), i am not convinced but the workshop manager assured me this needed done. I have never heard of a leak from here and i am betting no one else has. Also no explanation could be given as to why a leak would start from here.

However there is still a leak from both head gaskets at the front inner corners. the only explanation that seems possible for this is that the heads have been removed before and not properly re-assembled. Again i am dubious but i have to take their word for it i guess. They are putting some UV dye in the oil this afternoon to double check the trace of the leak before we go ahead and spend all the money i have ever had by replacing the head gaskets.

will keep you updated

That part number refers to an crankcase breather hose.

Whilst it may have been a problem I honestly can't see how you'd lose so much oil from it that you'd see it accumulate on the drive.

Can you pinpoint exactly where you are seeing the oil?

Also - I know horse bolt door moment but it's always worth saying that you want the old parts kept (they are still yours after all)

The dye is a good idea.

sorry, the cover number is 079 103 525 J, my mistake. The hose was another part on the invoice!

The visible oil was sitting in the V according to the tech. I've not seen it myself. Now it shouldn't be as the remaining leak is dribbling down the front of the engine from the head gaskets - proof of this will be in the dye.

so they are "claiming" you had 3x oil leaks.... must have looked like a fully synthetic Victoria Falls!!

if that were true you would have been going thru alot more oil than you were... just saying - doesnt add up in my book. sounds like the WS Mgr is covering his ar5e!!

Yes, this could most definitely leak oil - notice the two large holes at the back? That's where the oil filter connections sit (one in one out) so it would be subjected to high pressure oil.

If there was oil on the V then not an unreasonable place to start looking.

Head gasket change will be a b*stard as it's an engine out job.
