Thoughs on this B6 S4 Avant?

Post by CrouchingWayne » Mon Jul 22, 2013 9:49 am

Hi folks,

Went to see this yesterday:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... -mobi-link

Firstly it needs a service according to the trip computer and has been on long life services (about 20k) since new so going forward I would change to annual (with 5w-40).

No sign of a clutch change, pads are 50% at the front and disks are OK. Good Dunlop tyres all round.

Cream leather heated seats, climate control, no sunroof or sat nav, parking sensors.

First question, what do you think of the price? Bearing in mind the above it seems a touch high.

Second question, I didn't hear a rattle but are there any standard procedures to maintain the chain in good condition from 90k onwards?

Cheers guys!

FON.

So crouching Wayne, will a hidden dragon be joining the site soon?

Overshooting a service and a 20k service regime isn't ideal. Does the paperwork confirm this 20k service interval? Seems a touch pricey.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Hi, potentially a new addition to the site but we will see!

Yea the paperwork is audi then audi specialist stamped. Not any receipts or documents bar the last service details where the header tank and a couple of other items were replaced. Stamps seem to be consistent with long life services with some earlier ones done due to time (18-24 months) and then about 20k apart once the annual mileage picks up.

I agree on price, it feels £1000-1500 overpriced which is unfortunate as I doubt there would be wiggle room to get that knocked off on this example as that would be a 20% discount!

Not many options, BOSE, 6CD, rear parking, heated seats. No nav! 2005, but its the old shape, not a B7.

20k service intervals are best avoided. I bought mine with oil on average of every 11k, much better for the engine and those cam chains and tensioners. It had five AVS stamps whereas other cars I looked at (same mileage and age) only had three.

As you say yourself the clutch would need doing at some point, I specifically hunted a car with this done including receipt to prove the genuine dual mass flywheel had been fitted, bill was 2k!

Mines not for sale but I think 8k would be roughly what I'd advertise it for? 81k, FASH, six stamps, spec as signature

aftermarket Milltek non resonated cat back)

Thanks for the input, largely co forming what I thought. Does te chain or tensioners need replaced or adjusted at any set mileage or is it just keeping on top of the rattle that's required?

Hhmm no cruise or MFSW either.. yep, I'd say they're asking about a grand or so too much.

You don't want to consider the cost of doing the chains - don't even go there!! Buy a good mileage car with regular oil changes and a fully stamped book to prove

Goose - oh yeah knew I'd forgotten something, I've got cruise as well, cannot believe its not standard

MSFW only on B7 onwards, NA on the B6

I think I would try and hold out for a B7 tbh.
Current car: 2007 BMW 530d touring.
Previous car: 2005 S4 B7.

Hi there,

New to the forum with an S4 B7, but had an RS6 a couple of years back and used to be on here then.

I've just picked up a very late 2005 B7 S4 avant auto, but viewed the one you've indicated as its only 4 miles away.

The guy is a van sales place but does some cars, although not performance and indicated he had got it cheap in a dealer trade in. Although I thought very good condition, and drove well, it is somewhat lacking in options and overpriced. It is also due a service.

He was offering a good px value but could do at that price.

As said though, got a really good deal on a B7, just needed to act quickly when the right on came up.

Cheers
