Graunchy Brakes

Post by pennpromo » Mon Apr 19, 2004 4:00 pm

Hi Guys, I have now done nearly 17,000 in my S4 avant, (Nogaro, alcantara, standard engine). Managed very high (164 MPH) GPS certified speeds in Germany twice in the last few months but now I think that I have warped front brake discs. Heavy braking from about 70mph upwards is accompanied by a sort of vibration/ graunching, still plenty of meat on the pads, anyone had anything similar. I just want to be preparred when I take it in for the first service. A car such as this should tolelrate heavy braking I would have thought! Other problems so far minor: vibration from exhaust, (cam chains?) at low revs, droopy front doors, noisy drivers wiper blade, thats about it. Still very pleased after my last 2.7 S4 it just seems more solid. Watched the S4/ M3 test on the Top Gear re-run last night, pleased to see it was so fast round the track...

Sounds like warped front discs, or pad deposits on the discs to me

It doesn't matter how good your brakes are, you can still warp even the best discs by failure to let them cool down properly after a hard run, or leaving your foot on the brake after some serious braking.
