Wow, is that all the V8 S4 can muster on a gentle run?

What sort of speed was that averaging?

yeah that just about the max on the V8 S4

on the V8 RS 4 you can squeeze 30mpg due to the FSI

you could even squeeze 30MPG out of the V8 RS 6 due to the torque of the turbs

That is very good. I managed 28mpg on my previous B6 S4 according to the DIS but not convinced the DIS is connected with reality. My current B7 reads at least 2mpg higher than recording fuel purchase and mileage and working it out.

Still a good effort considering the size of the engine,

I went to Swansea earlier this week at 70 all the way and just edged over 30mpg on the way there and 29 on the way back. It was VERY boring though!

Personal best for me - 24.3 from Fareham / Hamble (Portsmouth region) to Oxford on the M27, M3, A34 with nice light Sunday morning traffic, cruise set to indicated 80, mum in the passenger seat as my speed limiter!!

Hi all. I find this thread quite surprising - if I stick my B6 S4 into cruise control at 70mph on a motorway journey I normally average over 30mpg. On a recent trip to Heathrow from Winchester I got an overall average of 32.8 (I took a picture because it was my personal best). I have even seen my average go up to 33.4mpg

I wonder if having cruise control makes the difference? I'd upload my picture if I knew how to.

Longer gearing of the tiptronic helps. I can only dream of 32.8 mpg and 356+ miles from a tank!!

Have beaten 24.3 since March though - 26.7 iirc coming home from Ace Cafe in foul conditions, stuck the cruise on and drove sedately, hours journey.

That particular tank got me 29.08 mpg overall, with a total of 383 miles. I use a handy little app called Road Trip on the iPhone which keeps an accurate reading of MPG and a devastatingly accurate reading of the amount of money spent on fuel... :drink:

On my 5 years of ownership the highest I managed regularly was 24mpg (non cruise). B6S4 manual on a long run
One of the reasons I chose a manual was for higher mpg that did not seem to work out on this model.
I was more concerned by the 15-16 mpg achieved sometimes locally...
But then again with a V8 I suppose should not have been surprised......

As above, the tiptronics have a longer final drive, much more relaxed on the motorway, significantly improvement over the manual.

I've just driven last night from Basel in Switzerland to Usti nad Labem in Czech Republic then back again today 470miles each way with the cruise set to around 90, I managed 24.2 last night but only 21.8 on the way back today? same roads, same speed, same fuel?! wierd?!
But I have to say that is still a lot better than my impreza!! and a fair bit more civilised!

Probably depends on which way the hills are going?
