Which suspension?

Post by wardy124 » Mon Aug 08, 2011 8:29 am

Here we go, first post of many no doubt asking questions that have been answered many times before!!
I've had a search through all of the forum posts right back to 2008 and can't make my mind up!
I've had the S4 for just over a month now and I've loved every minute, the last owner put on H&R lowering springs, I love the look of the car but am finding it a little bouncy?
I've driven the car from England to France then to the Czech republic last week, at high speeds she's completely planted but slow speeds through the little villages it almost feels like it's going to bottom out....

After all the posts I've read, the bouncy things is normal and I need to uprate the shocks, but I'd like to keep this look!
I'd love to go down the coilover route, the only thing is I've just had a baby yesterday! so i want the car to be comfortable and I've read that the coilovers can be a little harsh?
Is there a set of coilovers or uprated shocks that will give me this ride height but still be fairly comfortable?
Thanks in advance!
Wardy

KW variant 3's will be very comfy at that ride height. They do get very crashy when very low but at that height they'll be fine.

Tyre sidewall stiffness also play a big part.

Hi Wardy,
I tried H&R springs but it made the car sit on the bump stops, not good. I found the best set up was Neuspeed springs (much better than H&R) and Koni dampers, it rode better than stock. I think I set the Konis to 1.25 turns front and 1.5 rear on my Avant. You also need to cut 10mm from the middle of the front bump stop and glue them back together with super glue.

Looks lovely mboy!

I've decided to go in the coilover direction, and from what I've read it will be either the KW variant 3's or the Billstein pss9's

The car is mostly going to be a family wagon, but I like to have a play quite regularly I have some great mountain road very close by so I want the best of both worlds if I can get it?!

Any opinions?

thanks
Paul
