Hello All
So 3 weeks ago i had a new clutch, flywheel and slave cylinder fitted as the flywheel was giving up the ghost
Everything had been fine since until yesterday when i noticed a slight judder in the clutch pedal when it was pressed down slightly but went away when fully pressed to the floor
It then started to become difficult to get into gears, 1st and 2nd you had to force and 3rd and 4th would give a short grind like the clutch wasnt fully pressed
It then got worse so all gears now wont go in with engine running. A blip of throttle helps though
The clutch pedal pressure seems to change. It starts very light but if you pump it then you seem to regain some pressure. The fluid level is fine
Finally if you put into reverse with engine off and start the engine, the car will move backwards even though the clutch pedal is fully to the floor
So what do we think? Master cylinder? If so has anyone had to pay Audi for the job and how much should i expect to be shafted for?
Many thanks
Stu

I would contact whoever did the clutch change in the first place, all the symptoms you describe implies the clutch is not disengaging. Could be they didn't bleed the hydraulics properly when the slave cylinder was changed as pumping the pedal regains some pressure. When you say the fluid level is fine, is that after you have let go of the pedal, got out of the car to look at the reservior or is someone looking at while you press the clutch pedal?
Re: Opinions on gear change issues please
Its going back on Saturday. Hopefully a rebleed will sort it

Re: Opinions on gear change issues please
definately the clutch is not clearing properly as gottanS says , should just need bleeding ,but if it was ok until now there is no reason why air should be in there , maybe the bleed nipple has come a fraction loose but the fluid level would be dropping if that was the case , could be the master cyl seals are shot , i wouldnt drive it like that as you could damage the synchros in the gearbox so be gentle when you take it to the garage , i havnt seen under mine yet so i dont know where the bleed nipple is , but if you can get to it try and bleed it yourself . loosen the nipple and get someone else to press the pedal down once (DONT PUMP IT )then tighten the nipple and then allow the pedal up then repeat until you get a nice jet of fluid as the pedal is depressed , check the fluid level after a few presses to make sure the level is ok so you dont introduce even more air in there. that may save you atrip to the garage and potential damage to your box
