Valuation

Post by kidyamlo » Wed May 18, 2011 12:41 am

Silver Avant, 04 plate, 55,000 miles, very good condition (bar minor dinks on front bumper that need sorting). Webuanycar: £6.670.00 (prior to inspection, guaranteed reduction for any reason).

WTF... really?

I'm tempted to put it through this kind of company to eliminate hassle... but not at that price. Thoughts?

As mentioned the other day, the first three independents that spring to mind for a straight purchase, Fontain, German Marques, Croft. As a price guide, Fontain currently have a silver 2004 Avant, 62k, full black leather, BOSE, Symphony (no Nav) up for 12k.

Just ballpark, but what kind of profit would a dealer (independent or franchised, part-ex deal or straight purchase) expect to make on my car when sold on. I know there are a multitude of variables, so just looking for general guidance and opinion based on experience. Also, does the "not many people are buying performance cars" line have any truth in it coming from a performance car dealer... I suppose even they make the bulk of their profit from bog-standard stuff sold on to trade and it's just a question of branding for their business? And I don't mean that pejoratively, just curious.

Sounds about right. I was getting offered substantially less than that from wbac and the likes. But not too far away from that from a performance car dealer. They would be the people to speak to as they will know the true value of the car.

BTW, mine is a saloon with 93k on it, so I would expect yours to get more, obviously. But even at that, selling it privately, if you want it to actually sell, you will be looking around £9-10k tops. And it might take you a while. Depends on how desperate you are to get shot. Is it worth taking a £2k hit just to move it on?
