Hi, I have ordered and paid for new rear calipers and carriers from my local dealer. The calipers are in but still waiting on the carriers (delivery date and expectancy level shifts from week to week). I have decided that I would rather cancel the entire order and be refunded rather than hang on for what seems like forever for the carriers. However I have been told that they cannot refund the items already in stock as they were "special order". Just wondering if this is strictly true (that they cannot return the items) and that even if it is, why they couldn't find another home for them (perhaps that's unfair, but just wondering). I have no problem with the guys at the dealer, in fact they have been nothing but great, but just want to double check that I'm not being fed a line. And if it is true, what's the difference between a large wholesaler like EURO car parts taking parts back no quibbles and an Audi dealer potentially doing the same... or is the answer in the question?

I have had the same from Audi dealers. They will usually tell you beforehand if it is a special order part and that it can't be returned. You, basically, have to agree to the terms before they will order it.
The guys at Euro Car parts get their wages docked for "wrongly" supplied parts - if anyone brings a part back.
I was at the counter when one of the guys serving told someone about this as someone had just returned a part after ordering the wrong one for his car. He said they routinely get "fined" for parts coming back. Unbelievable I know, but the guy seemed truely genuine.

It's not just VAG groupe that do this, for special order non stock items, ie coming from Germany, I have heard most dealers charge a re stocking fee.

Without exaggeration, every single time I've ordered something from ECP they've manage to cock the order up (yes, Passat calipers are fine, thanks) so if that's true they've shot themselves in the foot a few times at Wembley. Stopped using them despite items generally being cheaper because they are just such a faff to deal with. Hence going straight to dealer for sake of convenience... oh well.nihc wrote:Hi,
