Yes but I bet that 13mpg was at below 25mph in commuter in stop start traffic?
I have a 10 mile commute to work and get 27mpg stuck in line of traffic travelling at a constant 50mph, it's just the last 2 miles of stiop start traffic doing less than 25mph which get my average down to around 20-22mpg.
Admitidley, I wouldn't want an S4 to just drive 2 miles in traffic everyday (I'd probably just get the bus or walk!) but then at 13mpg it would mean you could drive to work and back 3 times and it would only cost £5, which is still probably cheaper than the bus ?!

I know what you mean, I will quite often be driving at 60-65mph and think, oh, I must be in 4th, then go to change up and realise i'm already in 6th.
However, when cruising at just below 100mph, it never seems intrusive and you can still talk very easily without needing to raise your voice.

Maybe just turn the DIS off and then you dont have to look at the MPG ;)

Cheers for all your inputs guys.
I know that the fuel consumption is going to probably be the least attractive thing about the car!

Fuel consumption and its need to feed on expensive rubber are about the only unattractive traits of the S4, it is a stonkinly good motor, still makes me smile even after 3 years of ownership.

You have to wonder what the reaction was when someone said lets stick an enormous V8 into that normal looking car...

Agreed. Also use torque available when driving. I normally shift 1-3-6 or 2-4-6. Was back in blighty during xmas covering 1500 miles and I averaged 24mpg fully loaded. Not too shabby for a V8, 1800kg car.

Had an S3, B5 S4 Avant and B6 S4 auto.

Personally I wasn't a big fan of the auto box other than in traffic (or snow). I alway had it in +- mode as that way you can hold the revs until red line and the box doesn't just change on its own. Feels much more like a manual too. This is childish I know but it's also nice every now and again to 'blip' the V8 throttle to announce your arrival but that's not easily possible in an auto. One day I'll grow up :-)

Good luck mate and take your time, the right car will show up.

I know where you are coming from with the gearing, I always go for another gear when I am in 6th, usually around the 50-70mph mark. weird.

As for the noise, it used to be that you could have a conversation, but with a catless, non-res miltek those days are gone, at least now I dont have to tell the missus to shutup so I can listen to the zorst! :P

Cheers Shagga,
The search continues - I'm a patient man so don't mind waiting for the right one!

That's a nice selection of Audi's you had. How have you found them all? Is the RS your favourite so far?

RS by a country mile and then some. A fantastic car and the others don't even come close in terms of poise, stance, looks, power, handling and of course the RS is legendary.

My B5 Avant was a great car too but I spent a bit on that getting it 'up to speed'. I was sad to see that go and within a week of B6 tip ownership I wanted to sell it. Just not my cup of tea.

Good luck mate.

Maybe I should hold out for an RS4 :)

Another newbie question...
Can anyone tell me the differences on the 2007 models?

Have done many searches and read that there was a tweak in torque split, and the standard wheels changed but that was about it - is there anything else to look out for? Ideally I'd like a 2007 model, but if I see one I like can I (visibly) confirm it is a 2007, not just a late 2006? (besides the wheels as these can be easily changed).

Thanks
Rob

I think the 2007 onwards Saloon and Avants (but not cabs from what i could tell) have clear indicator lenses in the front headlights rather than the orange ones

Hi all, going to view a 2006 b6 s4 which I assume is one of the last of the b6's anything that I should know on this one, oh it's a cabriolet auto! Sorry manual fans.. We are looking at a manual too!
Any pointers on what appears to be a rare one would be great.
Thanks
