Impressive Top Gear lap time for B6 S4

Post by neckarsulm » Thu May 06, 2010 8:48 am

I watched a re-run recently and Clarkson said how impressed he was that a B6 S4 was only a bit slower than a Gallardo around their track (a Gallardo has since gone faster).
Looking at the lap time listing here it has some great company beating lots of other supercars inc 911 Turbo by .1 of a sec!

No mention about weather conditions. I'm not dissing this at all, merely questioning how something like the S4 can be 0.1s 'quicker' than a 911TT, or 1.4s quicker than a VX220 Turbo ?! Or even a Bimmer 760Li (fat lardy b'stard) is 0.1s quicker than the VX220 Turbo.

Audi S4 1.30.9
Porsche 911 Turbo 1.31.0
BMW 760Li 1.31.2
Vauxhall VX220 turbo 1.31.3

Something not quite right with some of the numbers IMO.
B5 S4 Saloon Widebody Track Car.

The mk4 R32 was slower at 1:33.2, it was the mk5 version that beats the B6 but only by 0.5s.

I agree Stumpy, the list doesn't seem to conform to ones expectations.
Regardless of the list, Clarkson and the others loved it, even more than an M3 which goes against the general opinion of the usual 'oversteer is everything' motoring press.

Mk5 R32 is a deceptively capable car.
