Brake fluid quantity and quality.

Post by infrasilver » Tue Apr 06, 2010 2:56 pm

Does anyone know how much brake fluid I will require to flush the whole system out on my S4. I am planning to flush the brakes as I assume it has never been done in its life. Is DOT 4 standard on the car? I am planning a trip to the Nurburgring so want to upgrade the fluid too.

Hi,

I bled mine recently and, IIRC, the Audi Erwin site states that you should bleed 250ml from each corner starting with front offside, front nearside, rear offside and rear nearside.
I put DOT 5.1 fluid in.

Regards, Chris.

I am considering DOT5.1 also but that sounds a lot if its 250ml from each corner or is that just to make sure you clear the whole system.

Hi,

That was the recommendation from audi for a brake fluid change - there's a lot of fluid volume in those calipers.
A litre of DOT 5.1 is only £12 from Halfords -

I didn't really consider the size difference of the calipers on the S4 compared to what I have bled previously.
