Locked out of my boot!
Locked out of my boot!
Hi everybody.
Just tried to open my boot and it's stuck. I think the mechanism needs a little dubb'ya dee 40. Anyways - Anybody know how to manual open the boot without the remote? I can here the trigger working it just doesn't have the punch to get the mechanism to work. Any ideas?
I've had this once before but it just kinda freed itself last time.
Any pointers would be most welcome. I can get into the rest of the car, and can crawl into the boot from the back it necessary.
Cheers,
Dave

RE: Locked out of my boot!
Only suggestion would be to crawl into the boot from the rear seats and remove the trim from the boot lid and see if you can open it that way. It is worth checking your battery is fully charged, have you tried opening the boot with the engine running as low battery wouldn't help.

There is a manual release (in an Avant at least, possibly in the saloon too?). I think it's in the same little cubby hole as the warning triangle, but your manual should tell you.

Marv,
The manual release you are describing is for the fuel filler cap, I am not aware of a manual release for the boot lid.

RE: Locked out of my boot!
There is a manual release for the boot catch and unless your interior tailgate cover has been off before and it has not been fed through into the warning triangle storage box then it should be in there. From what you are describing it sounds as though the actuator switch for the tailgate has failed. Happened to mine, but the reason for it was that there was a water leak where the washer pipe passes through the rear wiper motor and water was leaking into the tailgate from the pipe. New wiper motor and tailgate switch, dried it all out, and all was fine. It wasnt pricey eaither really. From memory the motor as about £70 and the switch about £25. If you are doing it yourself be careful when removing the tailgate trim as it is easy broken. Out of curiosirty is your 'boot open' warining light illuminated on the dash?

Having thought about it that makes more sense - that the boot release is the one in the warning triangle cubby hole in the boot lid.
I would have expected the fuel release to be in the off side cubby hole inside the boot itself.

Looks like i'm corrected now
I knew about the fuel filler cap release but didn't know there was a manual boot release, learn something new everyday.
