airbag light

Post by BigAustin » Tue Nov 17, 2009 10:59 am

I have had the airbag light come on again.

A colleague at work has a simple reset tool, and it stayed off for about 3 days.

The code it brought up was something related to passenger side ignitor ?
Now it only came on after driving over a slighly bumpy bit of road.

according to the B5 part of the forum its common for the wires under the seat to become loose, is it the same on the B6 ?
As at least I know where to start looking.

I had exactly the same thing happen, but it was after leaning on my passenger seat awkwardly while cleaning it. I had the fault reset, and like yours, it came back a day or two later.

I seem to remember that it was also related to the ignitor (I can check the printout I got later).

My airbag had to be replaced by Audi under warranty, so I'm afraid I can't help in terms of easy fixes.

Yes... the b5 chassis has the same problems with the passenger seat and the ABS light coming on.

There are connectors underneath the seat and you can take them apart to inspect them. Prize them apart to inspect properly and sometimes thats enough or just fiddle with the electrical connections for a bit and put them back together again and try to reset the lamp... I have heard that if this light comes on your airbags arent working at all (dont quote me on that though) but best to get it sorted asap... Best to have a look yourself to save any repairs that will cost you in the end from a dealer...

Mine did this but when i checked the connectors over they didnt really look damaged or anything... fiddled with the connectors and all has been well and good ever since... and never returned...

I was told by the dealer that once the fault has been raised, and the light has come on, it'll stay on until the fault has been cleared via VAG COM, even if the fault condition was for a short time. Although this may only be the case for some faults, eg. ignitor faults.

Thnaks for the replies..

Elsawin mentions a problem with airbag/seat wiring and yellow wired plug. So I will have a `wiggle` at the weekend, and reset it.

I`ll let you know if it stays off
