Switching off the passenger airbag

Post by impreza280 » Wed Jan 03, 2007 12:58 am

Hi again - another newbie question.

I'm trying to find out when the Audi S4 (B6) had a passenger airbag which could be turned off by the driver from inside the glovebox, for child safety reasons.

I phoned Audi customer service who directed me to the dealer. The dealer said it was an option so couldn't provide a specific date, although I'm sure that nearly all new Audi/VWs have this feature. Without it, the S4 would disappear from my shortlist.

Any confirmation greatly appreciated - I would be looking at a 2003 model.

I would have thought that a 2003 model would have the option. My girlfriends 2000 Golf and my 2001 S3 have the 'switch' in the glove box....

I thought it was a key/switch in the glove box method??

Just checked my 2003 S4, no key/switch in the glove box, so I will read the instuctions. Without the key/switch you will probably have to code the airbag off, with a scanner or Vag com etc.

My 2003 S4 had the switch in the glovebox, but my 2004 S4 didn't.

IIRC there is an upgrade kit that a dealer can fit to add the glovebox switch.

It was a cost option on the Avant and Saloon - not available on the Cab. It can be retro-fitted by the dealer together with front seat ISOFIX points if you want them.

My 2003 B6 also doesnt have the key in glovebox. When I checked I remember that it was (as Merlot correctly states) an option. I think that you cannot only have part of the "option" - you have to have the key AND the ISOFIX; but I'm not 100% sure....... (just 90% :)

Can confirm a 2003 S4 could have the key in the glove box to turn off the front airbag - mine has it (June 2003 model).

The key was only fitted if you took the isofix option - no isofix meant no key. Found this out on another forum as i had the key but thought i didnt have isofix, as i had the key i looked and found isofix - which was quite handy :)
