From B5 RS4 to B6 S4 anyone?

Post by Sql_RS4 » Sun May 21, 2006 3:58 pm

I own my RS4 for almost 4 years now.

I love the car. I really do.

The way it looks, the way it drives.

The power. Like Tiff once said said "Power, power, incredible power".

But time is running and my car is not getting younger.

Yesterday I met a friend of mine who drives B6 S4 Avant with full Milltec Exhaust with sport cats etc etc and some electronic tuning.

He mentioned he will be selling it in around 2 months.

I test drove it.

Well. I have to tell you I have a strong dillema now.

The price he is asking would be almost identical to the price I will be probably getting for my RS4 in case I decide to sell it.

So it would be an easy deal.

But. I am not sure about that move.

There are some good things like the fact that my car is 2000 and the S4 is 2003 production.

The design is newer...

The S4 is even fitted with new sat nav with mp3 and 16:9 screen.

Both are Nogaro Blue Avants - they even both have those Audi circles on their sides - yes the one you all didn't like in my thread about my B7 RS4 rims.

The S4 has around 28 k miles on the clock while my RS4 has around 90.

But I am afraid I may also regret that move.

I may feel bad about losing RS4 exclusivity.

The turbo boost at over 3 k rpm...

This S4 is fast... but it may feel a bit boring with that NA way of accelerating.

The sound of that S4 is AMAZING. Unbelievable. Milltek really did good job!

As you can see I am totally confused.

So I would like to know if there is a person who did such move?

What are your opinions?

Thanks
Maciek

Difficult. I've never owned either but drove both in deciding my new car. I went for the S4 because it is a newer car and generally felt the better all rounder and more sensible thing to do. Plus I'm not big on estates.

I sold my 2002 Boxster S and the age was starting to bother me, worrying about things going wrong and the general condition dropping off. Exclusivity is a big thing for the RS4 and that WOW road presence. But 25-30k for a 5/6 yr old car just didn't work for me.

I went for a Nogaro S4, in the perfect spec for me. It has enough road presence for me!!! Should pick it up next week.

Do it. If you've had the Stage 3 tune on the S4 you won't regret it for a moment. Yes you'll lose a Turbo boost but your motor will now sound like a Lambo as well as doing a pretty good impression. Time & technology wait for no man. In 3 years time upgrade it again.

Or hold onto your car, have the engine pulled, do some work on it and keep it...? I had a similiar dillema recently, I test drove the new RS4 and the RS6+. I decided to keep my B5 S4 as it is still a fantastic car and does everything at least as well as the other two. You get a newer car and put miles on it and it depreciates further and further and for what? To have a slightly newer car that feels a little bit different...?

For me its no brainer and as I'm dropping in RS4/RS6 hybrid turbo's it will absoluetely piss on any of the above.....horses for courses. I prefer to have the wolf in sheeps clothing kinda car that looks old but very discreet and opens the eyes of most ferraris and nealry all Porsches...

Just my opinion though....

I agree Rob, although I'd like to think that one day I will own a B5 RS4...

Pete - sure mate. Check out these links - both were before car was lowered

http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... rs6+brakes
http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... rs6+alloys

This link is very recent and shows car lowered - it was when I had briefly thought of changing to an RS4/RS6
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... %3AIT&rd=1

I have no rubbing at all but have to run 6mm spacers otherwise the inside wheel catches the caliper. Dead easy to clean which is just as well as the RS6 brakes are hard on dust...! They show off the brakes well too - although the pics do not do them justice.

Ahhh - 18"s. For a minute I thought you'd somehow managed to get 19"s on a B5!!! Are the 18s reps then, cos the factory-fit RS6 alloys are all 19s aren't they? Just wondering cos I had some RS6 reps on mine, but got rid of them because they buckled slightly (only cheap though, around £100 per wheel). Looks great mate btw, still amazed how good the B5 looks, even after 2 shape changes. Tell you what though, photos never seem to do red "S" & "RS" Audis justice, always look far more stunning in the flesh.

I saw S4woodys red s4 last night and I must say it's was the shiniest car I've seen in a long time. Don't normally like red cars but I did like his.
