Phatbox / Phatnoise

Post by JampoTT » Wed Jun 29, 2005 1:52 pm

Has anyone fitted one to an S4 Avant? With a Symphony unit already fitted?

Considering one, but only if I can retain the 6-disc headunit...

I've have one on order. Should be here any day now.

Did you know that you can now hack is so that you can put any size laptop harddisk in the DMS to replace the 20Gb one? ;-)

Yes I read that on TSN, however 20GB of muzac (15,000 songs) is quite sufficient for my needs....

I'm sitting here feeding CD's into my PC. I'm not gonna do this again so I'm recording at 320. I'm at 12Gb and have done about 20% :?

Nope. I now have ripped 240 CDs (some singles) and have about the same to go. So far I'm up to nearly 30Gb.

I wonder if I'll ever get around to doing by 250odd cassettes? I've also got around 50 LPs/12". :?

I've not fed and more CDs since the last post but I have got the Phatbox. I did a temporary install, have loaded up some music and done a firmware upgrade and I'm really happy with it. Today I'll screw it in place and it's job done and all for £169.99!! :D

These were being fitted by Audi a year or so back for around £700!!

Next job is to get a 100Gb laptop harddisk and install than into the DMS. 8)

Been thinking of getting a Phatbox for some time now and seems to be a great addition to the standard setup.

Where is the best place to get one from in the UK for home install, is it better to buy one from Ebay and get it imported from the US?

Do they come with all the leads & software?

Any help would be appreciated.

Get one off ebay.co.uk as i did. If you have the 6CD in the glove box then get the cheaper VW one as it's cheaper and will connect with the cable supplied straight into the 6CD loom. If not then you need the extra cable to go into the head unit. This comes with the Audi phatbox or you could get the VW unit and then buy the cable separately.

They come with software etc.

I've now got all my CDs burnt (only the wifes to go!). I've done them at 320kb as I want to do it once only. Since this has taken up way more than the 20Mb, I've run DBpoweramp against the music directory and now I have a new directory of songs at 128kb. I've now loaded up my DMS (about 80% full) with this lower quality music. I've also found that my mobile 6230 doesn't handle MP3s at 320 very well. After about 10 mins it starts to skip so I'm using the 128kb music on that as well.

It's easy to connect etc I took the glovebox out and then fixed it in with a couple of screws.

100Gb conversion still to be done.

Here are some pics of a Phatnoise that has been installed in my B6 Saloon glovebox:

This is the VW unit with re-flashed firmware:

It's easy to use and 20Gb is more than enough for me.

Can this be plugged into the Concert single cd player too?
